Hello there vik,

Generally speaking you will find some of the best koi in the world comming out of japan. However things are a changin'. There are countries that are touching the tip of the iceberg and getting much better.

Sexing koi is a tought thing to do unless they are atleast a year. Even at that age it is just barely better than a 50% shot. On adult koi you can sex the the females by looking at the girth. The more robust koi are likely to be the females.

Yes they can be sold for more than that. Usually large females will get into that range. I the breeder is smart anyway.

Dear koi kichi vik

Firstly welcome to the forum. How are you doing ?

To determine the sex of koi, is never an easy task. Your best bet is when purchasing mature koi you should inspect them bag them and look at the underside the female vent shape looks more like a horse shoe, while males tend to be mre like ! with a bigger dot.

Also males when mature and in breeding condition develope breading tubicles (raised bumps) around their gill plates and front rays of the pectorial fins.

In youger fish it's very difficult.

In england a couple of people payed half a million pound sterlin for a fish £500,000.00 I'm not sure what the convertion rate is but i'm guessing $730,000.00 Alot of cash for one fish huh ?

Nah they don't risk breading with that fish it's in a 6000 gallon pond by itself. the only time that fish comes into contact with other fish is at koi shows.

Mind you it is world grand champion. And i spose if you have a water garden bussiness it's good advatising. As people will just come to see the Half million Quid koi and maybe buy stuff they don't need. lol
