oorah.....

Sound like the right size and bulk of eggs to breed.......I'd say most likely it'd be eggs...

BTW: Did this fat belly gradually grow to be like this or suddenly? and do you have a pic avalible?

With regards, Jarvis

oorah...

Over months.....so really sounds like a potential spawn ......Tongue

Koi spawn in the spring.....some indications are:

Koi (male) chasing other koi (female).......NOTE.......I MEAN CHASING AGGRESSIVELY!!!Smile
A foul fishy odour around the pond or spawn areaCrazy
Koi refuse to eat during or around time of spawn

Or if you realize after the spawn......

you will see the eggs in the water (lots and lots of them if you have a few females)Smile
foamy water
cloudy water (male sperm)

I would suggest that if you want to keep the eggs, somehow get them away from the parents as they WILL start eating their own eggs right after the spawn!!!!Mad If not just let them spawn naturally.......Just remember to watch the water conditions after the initial spawn...

Since you don't have plants now.....I suggest you get some for the koi to lay the eggs on.... because they rarely just lay their eggs on bare ponds.....they need a nest-like structure like plant roots or the professional spawning nets to feel safe to lay their eggs.

Love to see pics....
