i don't like to let them spawn Can't Post
is it possible to rear koi without letting them spawn, naturally or artificially? i.e. separating the males and females forever.

Well, isn't that kind of cruel?

They could have operation done to take out the repoductive systems.....but cost $$$

Some dealers shine koi under a special light that makes koi infertile...etc stuff like thatLaugh

i guess i just have to let them spawn when they grow big enough. they are separated now in two ponds. i'm just afraid to experience casualties during the mating process. by the way, does anyone know where to get the measuring device they use in japan?

About the "measuring device".....you mean the floaters with the measuring scale on them...to measure koi length???

Well....for where ever you live.....I'm not too sure on where you can get them.....

but I've seens some on sale in the shops of major koi dealers...Tongue They tend to be expensive thoughUnimpressed

If I couldn't find one.....I would just get a floating, rectangular container and draw measruements on it with a perminent marker.....cheap and fun to make...Tongue

HELLO ALL ITHINK IT IS OK TO LET NATURE TAKE ITS WAY I HELPED MY KOI SPAWN AND ALL ARE DOING GREAT EXCEPTION TO MY OLDER MALE DIED BUT DONT THINK IT IS FROM SPAWN CHILDREN WERE ON VACTION FROM SCHOOL AND I THINK OVER FEED THEM NITRO GOT HIGH THEY KNOW NOT TO TOUCH ANYMORE HAVN FUN IN GEORGIA

I FEED THEM A LITTLE BIT OF FLAKE FOOD THEY LIKE IT I WAS TOLD IT AFECTS THERE FINS BUTTHEY HAVE THEM SO I GIVE A LITTLE TO THEM LIKE IT MOR THEN BRIN WHATEVER

AS FOR YOUR LAST POST YOUR RIGHT BUTTERY GOLD FISH OH WELL GUESS I WILL NOT BE POSTING HERE ANY MORE SORRY I WILL BE GETTINGREAL KOI IN THE FUTURE FIST PROJECT DONE THEN MORE I GUESS MOST WOULD NOT BE EXCITED ABOUT GOLD FISH BUT I AM THEY ARE PRETTY NEAT TO WATCH GROW FROM EGGS WELL TAKE CARE
