hi all, new to forum and to koi keeping. built a pond a month ago about 2000 gals, stocked it with feeders, goldfish and koi. lots of plants and a mechanical filter. all is well. most of my koi are about 3 to 4 inches long. How large do they have to be to spawn???
Give them another couple of years, they will spawn before then, maybe in a year, but you will want to seperate the koi and goldfish from each other when you do a spawn as they will mix resulting in no good fry. Judy
WOW, thanx for the info, i had no idea they could crossbreed. What kind of fish would you have?? more of a koi or more of a goldfish?? Well if thats the case looks like my goldfish are headed back to the pet shop. Already had a few people tell me that the goldfish would spawn like crazy and compete with the koi. Thanx again.
Half goldfish and half koi, they are called koigoldfish cross and they are ugly to. I have had my share and I to no longer have but one goldfish and he has such long fins that he cannot keep up with the spawn Judy
