more mudpond pics....... PHiLiPPiNES Can't Post

On our way to the mudpond
tracking down the southern Luzon express way
Laguna, Philippines

In the background at the end of the Highway,
the Majestic Mount Makiling an inactive volcano source of underground hot water
supplying the many hot spring resorts around the foot of the mountain.

Legend says abt a beautiful nymph Maria Makiling, caretaker of the mountain
would play tricks on male mountain hikers by leading them a stray from their path
and they could get lost for hours going in circles. Its also said that the way out of this
is to wear your shirt inside out. Legend also says that only the good looking men/boys
get lostSmile Watch out koi dudes when you come visit the Philippines Wink

Very impressive. The kohaku in particular are extremely well marked and as you point out, very good shiroji. Well marked showa as well. Strong sumi and the pattern slashing across the face in the first close-up shows much potential. I also like the tancho sanke but I'm a bit biased in its favor as one of my fry (only 8 cm) is very similar and I can only hope it will turn out as nicely as yoursWink.
I couldn't help but notice in the showa pictures (#6&7) a specimen (in the net) that had such strong hi and sumi that it almost looked like an Utsuri. I don't suppose you have a close-up of that one do you? Old style showa turn my crank and the pattern on the back looked very bold.Cool

Very impressive.
Thanks Larry

The kohaku in particular are extremely well marked and as you point out, very good shiroji.

We bred them last April 12, 2005 a combination of Marudoh males and
Sakai Hiroshima females and vice versa. This mudpond kohaku came from two sets of parents

Well marked showa as well.
Strong sumi and the pattern slashing across the face in the first close-up shows much potential.

About 70% of these showas are gearing towards the old style kobayashi showa.
They are of Isa lineage. The thing about an Isa showa is the striking bold jet black
sumi against a snow white shiroji
I also like the tancho sanke but I'm a bit biased in its favor
as one of my fry (only 8 cm) is very similar and I can only hope
it will turn out as nicely as yours.

Yes thank you Larry
I think when this koi is in already in my concrete pond
I will have to work out more on the white of this tancho sanke
Sumi promises good future
Although the crown is not that well rounded this doesn’t bother me much
but the fact that this tancho sanke is male ! darn !

You have any photo of your sanke?

I couldn't help but notice in the showa pictures (#6&7) a specimen (in the net) that had such strong hi and sumi that it almost looked like an Utsuri. I don't suppose you have a close-up of that one do you?
Old style showa turn my crank and the pattern on the back looked very bold.

Good eye Larry
At the moment, They are all still in the mudpond
In time Tom and I will harvest them and will take a closer photo for you
Cheers!
And may the tategoi be with you LarrySmileWink

I don't have any current pix just yet, but we'll be netting them to move to a deeper pool we are getting ready to build soon (remodeling the main pond so they all have to be moved). We'll be bowling and picture taking all day when we do so I'll post photos thenSmile. In the meantime I'll patienty wait for more from you.
It is good that you are able to mix these two excellent bloodlines. Not only are they beautiful, it should help to add much needed genetic strength to the offspring as wellCool. Excellent workSly.

So very coooool. I am so excited to be raising my first batch of Koi. Looking at your fishes is inspiring. I can't wait until next season so as to breed more. In the meantime I am learning alot and hope to be able to become a good supplier of Koi for pond people in my area in North Houston, Texas. I hope to be able to set up two more big pools in my backyard. As I get bigger I will move my operation to my brothers property where he has a massive mudpond to raise them in. Keep the inspiration coming with your pics.. Thanks alot for the info and entertainment of your photos......................._/)

Thanks Larry! In breeding kohakus.... mixing a Marudoh and a Sakai is exciting and a lot of heartaches too
especially when you produce many many TATESHITAS or worse, CHUPPAS ! its really true that in breeding koi
you only get a very few good ones if you're lucky, well i just hope that luck is always thereSmile

the showas in the pics are bred by Isa and will soon be our oyagois too,
getting the right parent combination is like opening a safe,
i'll just cross my fingers and hope these showas make good babies
anyway, me and my team are happy with the kohakus, sankes and chagois we had bred
just like the ones we posted here
Thank you Larry for your comments, we appreciate itSmile

good luck to you too KnufredoySmile

mike h,

here's a message from "copya"

Hi there Mike H I've seen koi pics at your mud pond. Do you own it? Where in Pinas it located? Are those Kohakus,Tancho Showa and Sanke are local offspring or parents are imported too. How big it can grow in the Pinas? You know what from the pics they are not bad looking kois I just dont know how big it would grow. What size are the parent are they jumbo's? The reason why I'm asking all these questions is when I retire I know I won't be able to bring all these kois with me(I wish I could)in Pinas so you know what I mean? Keep up the good work man and more power to you.I will see you and the guys when we go vacation show me your mud pond and your kois. JIMMY

mike h,
here's a message from "copya"

Hi there Mike H I've seen koi pics at your mud pond.
Do you own it?

The kois and koi operations are kOis & pOnds’
But the farmland I’m renting

Where in Pinas it located?
Laguna

Are those Kohakus,Tancho Showa and Sanke are
local offspring or parents are imported too.

The showas are born in Japan bred by Isa.
The kohakus, and tancho sanke are born in the Philippines
bred by me and my son Tom

How big it can grow in the Pinas?
No idea yet, we just started breeding when they imposed the koi ban here in the Philippines in 2003,
but I hope they grow as big as their parents too
(coming from Hiroshima Sakai and Marudoh other koi babies from Dainichi, isa, miyatora, mano and seitaro parent koi),
although we had very good growth rate for the kois
we brought in from Japan before the ban.
We’ve also grown kois to jumbo size in the Philippines,
(from those that were bred by the proven koi masters in Japan.)
They grow fast due of the warm weather but you tend to lose
the color quality you want to achieve if you’re not careful.

You want to achieve koi QUALITY before koi SIZE
but if you can have them both,
That’ll be good for you.

You know what from the pics they are not bad looking kois
Thank youSmile
I just dont know how big it would grow.
Will keep you posted
What size are the parent are they jumbo's?
Over 75cm.
Jumbo size in All Japan standard means "KYORI SIZE DIVISION" which starts at 85.1cm and over

The reason why I'm asking all these questions is when I retire I know I won't be able to bring all these kois with me(I wish I could)in Pinas so you know what I mean? Keep up the good work man and more power to you.I will see you and the guys when we go vacation show me your mud pond and your kois. JIMMY
Thank you, Jimmy good luck and more power to you too

Is the Koi import ban due to the KHV outbreak? I wasn't around when all of that started so I don't know the history other than what I've been able to piece together reading various articles.

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources imposed the koi import ban in January 2004
due to the KHV outbreak of two magoi areas in Japan.

Sometime in May 2004, a meeting was called by the Bureau attended by Fisheries officials,
a government official, local koi breeders, koi dealers/importers/traders, Filipino koi hobbyists,
and Pet shop owners to discuss possible lifting of the koi ban.

Decision was arrived to further extend the ban.

In November 2004, Fisheries General Memorandum Order #1-04
“Selective lifting of suspension of importation of Koi carp”
was passed and the koi ban was lifted with import requirements to fulfill.

Well, I just learned something new today, I threw away all the fry that looked like this thinking that they were no good. I guess you live and learn when breeding koi and it takes some time. I now know next spring not to throw away my chagoi fry.Frown I wish now i had posted the pics before I went throwing them away.Mad

Hi mike! just a nonsense question....since youre not all the time in your mudpond, So you let your trusted caretakers handle the pond right?
Did you ever catch one of your caretakers take home one of your beautiful kois? may it be for personal satisfaction or making some "on the side" money?

hmmmmmm...dont tell me you count each and every koi fry you have? and check again when they eventually grow...
if yes.....hmmmmm cool!!!!!!!!!!

PS...beautiful koi's! beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

are chagois used for eating some koi's parasites?how much do you sell it?

thanks

Very impressive! I like very much those Kohaku! Nice body shapes and good shiroji. Some have attractive pattern. And they are quite large, maybe 25 to 30 cm in lentgh? Being born in april they are just 7 months, am I correct? That is great growth.
Of course I also like your Tancho Sanke, some of your Showa... Smile
Excellent work, even if they are just a small fraction of the whole bunch of fry that you have produced. I guess this is as it is even in Japan, only a tiny fraction of the fry meet the expectations.
Excellent work, congratulations! ... and please keep posting
