my koi fry Can't Post

Hello Kief

Finally I have taken some pix of my koi hatchlings. They are just a month old and around 600+ hatched. spawning parents are showa and tancho, but I didnt see any black fry so maybe most of these guys are going to be a kohaku. Most of them are yellowish and orange in color. What do you think? you have spawned and grown your frys already. What color where they when they were still this small?

Hi Hindley,
You can start your own koi farm in the Phillipines with them. Wow! Thanks for sharing and keep us posted with pics.

Hello Blue

Hehehehe I have no plans on having a koi farm, I just wanted to spawn some of my koi so that I can pick out a good patern from there fingerlings. I cant afford those very nice and perfect paterns but I guess through spawning I can have some very interesting pattern and beautiful kois for that matter. We'll also be transferring these frys to the mud pond next month for them to grow faster.

Hello Ryan

Sure I'll keep you guys updated on there development.

Hey Hindley

U could open your own bait shop. Wow!Sly Honestly all of mine looked that way at this age. I did have quite a few black though. Most of them turned out to be junk. All I can tell u (because I am no expert by any means) is to hang on to them as long as u can without jeporizing water conditions. The longer u keep them the easier they are to cull. Im sure that I saw a GC in there somewhereWink

Keep us posted and learn how to use that macro setting for close ups!

Hello Kief

I think I'll be culling them when they are big enough for me to choose what patterns I want to keep. All of these guys are going to the mud pond for them to grow faster so I still dont know if I can show you clearer pix when they are there already. BTW whats a GC?

Hello Hindley, how long are you going to keep them in the mud pond before you start culling? With the mud pond did you just dig a big pond and fill it with water? What are the dimensions of the mud pond?

Hi Russell

I think I well keep them in the mud pond for six mos. and would be culling them in 2-3 mos. The bigger they are the easier for me to cull for I still dont have enough knowledge in predicting how the pattern developes. The mud pond is a natural pond but it was just to shallow so we dig it up to be 4' deep. I still havent seen the pond so I dont have the specific dimensions yet but there are two mud ponds that we have created.
