Martin,

Your enthusiasm is comendable but I would suggest learning how to care for koi before thinking of breeding them.

I am not trying to discourage u, but there is alot to learn when it comes to keeping koi. Be patient, u have your whole life ahead of you.

he's right. how about this, u keep them alive for a year (no deaths) then we talk about breeding. maybe we'll be breeding at the same time by then. (also, u might not know this, they cant breed til they are quite big)

swimming pool: i dont think you intend to put a bio filter, do you? the sand filter or d.e. filter of the pool is not enough.
but to answer your question, pond water or tap water is ok, as long as you dechlorinate the latter.

you should buy a koi book. it will answer most of your questions.

hey martin one thing also you need oxygen in the swimming pool too. So a fish tank air pump will do.

medium sized chagoi <----- he is saying it is bigger than 4" basicly and probably 8-12." He also stated he would be getting them in a few weeks, which means no he doesnt have any other koi at the moment.

Is your pond new or is it quite well established?

You wouldn't want to overload your system with a lot of fish. How big is the pond?

Well, I know you're probably of the mentality that 30 years of age is "ancient", but you do have so many more years to enjoy your koi and while you are getting into the hobby, go for the smaller, cheaper fish so that if you do lose any to inexperience, they aren't costly! I plan on buying younger koi for some time so I can grow up with them for years and years. When I'm 60 ill think about buying 70cm koi! Anyways.

There is an absolute wealth of information on the internet about keeping koi, many many informative websites are about so you can learn a great deal.

Like the others have said, gain some finesse and experience before you start thinking about spawning
