raising fry Can't Post

Hello, I'm new hear. I've had 5 Koi for 3 years now. They began spawning and on Sunday I retrieved a plant from the pond with lots of eggs. The eggs hatched yesterday and I have about 15 or more fry. What do you think the chances that some will make it? I have had a fish tank in the yard running with pond water in it and an air stone for about two weeks, the water is a bit green with some duckweek in it. I've read and prepared some egg yokes and will go out today to look for some brine shrimp to hatch for them. I understand that water quality and changes are necessary, and will do so. I have never rised fry before, my fish just decided to spawn so I will give it a try.

If I cannot find brine shrimp or daphnia will the egg yoke keep them? once I mash the egg, I keep it in the refrigerator , how long will it be good?

I assume the plants in the tank are a good thing? I will transfure them into a bigger tank once I can move them without damage. How long should I have the new water sit? will the fry be ok to transfer or should I leave them where thay are.

Thanks for any help.

Re: [Woods] raising fry [In reply to] Can't Post

Well, The fry are two weeks old, about 40 of them. They grew to about 4 to 8 mm's. They look orange, some have black lines in them. Can't tell which ones will be orange and which will change???

Last wedenesday another Koi spawned, I now have about 400 hatched fry in another tank!!

they fry love the brine shrimp, their bellies turn orange when they eat!

I guess I'm doing everything right.

hey have you transfered them yet? if not you should let the tank that theyre in right now sit in the water you will transfer them to for thirty or 45 minutes, or depending how big the small tank is. when the water has stablized to the big tanks temperature you can tip the tank over enough to let them swim out but dont pour it. this will allow you to not use a net
Thanks Marshall

I have not transfered them yet, I was thinking of keeping them indoors this first winter, what do you think?

How big do they have to be to go in with the larger adult koi?

I have lot's that I'll give away, I don't have enough space for them all.

They are now only in a 5gal fish tank, and growing well, it's filtered and the water quality if good. I was going to get a bigger tank to winter them indoors. I will only winter over about a dozen.
