re: baby koi or goldifsh mix? Can't Post

Our babies are approx 9 months old now - some exhibit the "whiskers" or barbels but some don't appear to. We had 1 female and 2 males obviously breeding but perhaps goldfish got involved or else when do the barbels become visible? They are of varying sizes and some are getting colors. Also, when do more colors appear? thank you!

HI if you dont see barrels or whisker on the fish then they are what is called koigoldfish cross and are not good. I would cull them and keep what you have of the koi and only keep the ones you like best of them. Can you post some pics of the babies for us to look at?

If they are koi goldfish cross they are no good, and you need to give them away or put them is a stream somewhere. I can assure if you put them in a stream the ones that make it will have a good life. The ones that dont make it well it was meant to be. If you give them away they will learn in time that they are not good fish and will soon get rid of them or kill them anyways.. I realize it is hard to kill the fish as I too have a hard time with this.

I've just been looking at another site as I am interested in breeding this year. It seems a favorite way of culling is placing the fry in water with loads of ice cubes.
I think now I will leave the breeding to those with the aptitude.
