Backup Power Can't Post

Hi, the main switch at the fuse box always trip during thunder storm and sometimes there was anybody at home. I am wondering if there is some kind auto-recovery system that will switch it back on by itself after a while. I am considering getting a backup battery system but it's costly. Any suggestion?

If it trips easily, you might want to check if your wires are exposed to water somewhere. I had the same problem before with my house. Thunderstorm=electricity trip, 100% guaranteed, in my case. So I set about redoing all the wires around my pond, protecting the electrical outlets from water, etc. Et voila! No more tripping. You might also want to make sure you don't have any pumps that are old and might be failing.

This is the cheapest option.

As for your original question, there are auto-recovery circuit breakers and elcb(earth leakage circuit breakers) out there. You might want to do a search in your area or ask electrical shops about them. I've seen some from China but don't know how good or reliable they are. Do bear in mind that by design, a circuit breaker should protect you from an electrical fault. Thus, these things will only re-set itself if the fault is no longer there. If it's water, it may take a few hours for it to dry sufficiently before it can reset itself.

Good luck. Maybe you can share what you finally decided upon?

Thanx.

Sometimes my power will be tripped as well. So i have a portable generator on standby. You can buy at hardware shop. Uses battery power so it will last for 2-3 hrs only.

etano, 2 option, first as per proposed, ie power generator, u can get those where they use for "pasar malam" (i presumed u from KL) costing about RM300 or so, of course made in china...since its not often used, no issue really but its manual. when i build my pond, i've ask my electrician to do an auto back up, they guy said, not worth the money...it cost a bomb as the gen set alone will cost a few thousand as not all gen set can be automated...your second option is get your electrician to change the elcb to a less sensitive elcb, cost u probably less than RM100, of course cheaper if u know how to change otherwise get an electrician. I did mine and since, no issue on thunderstorm or lightning...of course again, if u are on long vacation, always a problem, right...nowadays, there are alarms which is link to your phone, the latest i was told GSM alarm where u just insert a our sim car (supp line) and use the same phase (assuming your house is three phase - red, yellow and blue) if single phase, no issue, no need rewiring. use the same phase and if there is trip, it will call ur handphone, then u can summon someone to your house...best bet....

Hi All,

The long term solution, although it will be costly, is solar-powered source energy. The rising cost for Electricity is worth considering. Further, if it is wired properly, you don't have to worry about the interrupt power supply to your pond.

For discussion please!
