Bio-balls... Just great Product marketing or joke!! Can't Post

For 6 months I have used an old sand/diatomaceous earth filter as a pond bio filter... Seems to work well ... in that the water checks out OK... However, yesterday I opend it up after 6 months of continious service...
POINT.... The ''Bio-Balls'' were perfectly clean...no growth on the at all!!!!... Other than some accumulation of Dirt,Crap, etc on the screens of the filter and the bottom.... where was the GROWTH on the balls which converts the ''fish stuff'' to non-potent nothing???????
ANY THOUGHTS OR some understanding of this...??
Thanks,
Jimar1

what growth are looking at, mind me...

i very very much doubt you can see bacteria film growth with naked eye, no matter how matured your filter media is.

bio balls are mainly/more efficiently used with a dry system- trickle towers, bakki shower. submerged it and it beats the purpose of the grooves that was made,

Guess you're right!... but did expect to see some obvious growth on some of the balls... Since the balls are in a large, closed, round container I can't see the interneal action but know that the balls do move around in the container when the pump is running... Just assumed that there would be an obvious growth on the balls.
Thanks,
Jim
