need advice for filter system for parent's koi pond Can't Post

Hi,
I need some advice. I am from Ampang KL. I have no knowledge about koi's or the pond nor the filtration system. What I do know is that my parent's who are now in their 70's are koi lovers and have a pond in their garden for several years now. It gives them immense pleasure feeding and watching them grow.

Currently they have a sand filter which was recommended when the pond was built. Right now I feel that the sand filter is not a good option. Almost daily my dad has to clean the sand filter. I hate to see him struggle with this as he has to bend and it really is not good for his knees nor back. I am considering changing the filter to a low maintenance type. I have gone through the internet looking into a subject I have no knowledge of and came up with something I think could be related. It is a company called Waterco that deals with pool filtration pumps. Is this a suitable option and is it very costly? I was quoted RM5000. I think this is an excessive amount. What do you think?

Can someone suggest something suitable that will not burn a hole in my pocket :-)

Thank you.
Mohana

is your parents koi pond has a bottom drain installed? if it does, you can install settlement tank with release valve before the bio filter
