I believe he said he had ONE bottom drain, and I suspect he uses the bottom drain to irrigate his system. That said, it might be cumbersome to try and re route the bottom drain into a gravity fed chamber. (Plus the fact he said he didn't want to do anything on his exisiting pond.) Yup, agreed. I think he might need a couple of walls or something to give some friction to the water coming in from the inlet pipe from the pump into the settlement chamber. Oh yes, and he can have as many drainpipes as he pleases (but just as a caution, the joint between the concrete and the pvc plastic is where there's a likelihood for leakage, and as such I'd recommend fewer standpipes but just bigger diameter pipes instead.). Gee, maybe venturis aren't necessary for his pond because the surface area to volume ratio is so huge already. Big enough surface area for gaseous transfer. Plus I'm now a proponent of using fewer pumps and more efficient pumps. The running cost of pumps can be quite astronomical for big ponds like this in the long run. The Vege filter can be of any size and placed anywhere after the bio filter. (U could have a narrow waterway running around your pond with water marginals in it, but u do have to do quite a bit of maintenence to cut away dead/dying leaves b4 they rot in the water.). Waterfalls?? Geez, frankly I wouldn't suggest that in Jordan simply because of its hot and dry/arid climate. With a waterfall running 24/7 u'll be getting alot of evaporative cooling (and I'm sure u'll hve a cool house if it's near to the pond), but with that kind of huge surface area of his current pond, he's already getting alot of evaporative cooling! If you add a waterfall to that, all that will do is make him replace a whole lot more water because of more evaporation from the waterfalls. Errr.... and I do think water is a little more precious in that part of the world. External pumps. Hmm, that sounds like a good idea if he can get a reliable one. Otherwise, just make sure you have a spare pump on standby at all times. If you have 2 filters and run it on different pumps, u might get away with one functioning filter till you can get the other fixed. I think it's more critical for us who have only 1 filter and 1 pump. What I'd really like to see is a couple of pictures of this pond we're talking about. That could help in the design.
