MY NEW POND Can't Post

Heres some pics of my new pond.

It's 1080 gallons
Dimensions are 6 x 8 x 3.
the liner size is 15 x 16.

It was $223.86 at home depot.

it has a cyprio 2000 UV
and a 1500 Gph pond pump.
and it leads to a waterfall filter as u can see in the photo.

this pond has been highly anticipated for many years. NO MORE RACOONS ARE KILLING MY KOI, I THINK.

All forms of talk about my new pond is welcome, criticism, compliments, suggestions, etc.

P.S. its not done.

Nice start Eric.

Can we get more details on filtration? Perhaps some photos of it as well? I understand you had frustrations with the previous filtration on the old pond, and so I would like to help you stay clear away from that problem before.

Re: [koiguyoz] MY NEW POND [In reply to] Can't Post

my filter is a waterfall barrel lip, with a big umbrella palm plant that will suck up every nitrite and ammonia. the tank also has alot of bio balls and huge amounts of filterfloss with mechanical filtration. and all this is preceded by a cyprio 2000 UVC.
does it seem adequate?

oh at the moment the impeller on my submersible pump is broken, we are getting a new impeller blade.

good to hear, keep it up. I was just voicing an opinion. As for plants, I wouldn't know what plants to suggest as you're in a completely different climate to me, dur. Now that'd just be silly :P

I won't suggest any for you, but I would reccomend looking at the poison plant list linked on the main page. I just found out that the 4 o'clocks we have growing at the ponds edge are toxic to fishShocked. (That helps to explain why they don't eat the flowers that fall into the water) We'll be moving it soon and scooping flower petals twice daily in the meantime.

while laying the liner, i was forced to fold ALOT of wrinkles, Is this normal?

I think it was because of the shape of the pond, and it changing drastically as you get deeper.
lol i was a bit to harsh on what i said earlier, sorry lawrence, im just a stupid 15 year old kid. in a way i was asking for more opinions to better my pond.

Yeah, I too have lots of folds in my liner.. frogs keep deciding to hide in them :/ Don't think it's a problem for fish, unless they're really small and may get stuck in them..

Hi Eric

I have never used a liner before but from what I've seen having lots of folds is normal unless you can afford a premould liner. Try to minimise it and make it small foldsSmile You can still adjust them while you fill it upWink

Jon

Re: [lilhelper] MY NEW POND [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Eric

Its impossible to prevent some wrinkles or folds when laying a liner. What I have found best is to get into the pond and work out the folds as it slowly fills. If you work at it you can keep it to a few folds that are positioned in a less noticeable spot. My latest pond I did shape the bottom with small ridges to help eliminate most of them. The fish do seem to like the bottom of the pond being contured this way instead of smooth. You can also hide the folds with rocks if you don't mind having rocks on the bottom. I personally would rather have a few folds than the sludge that will build up under the rocks.

You have made a very nice looking pond. Cool I think once you get some more plants around it, it will really be cool. There are tons of plants that could be planted near it. I like ones that don't lose their leaves in the winter so that I don't have to worry about keeping the leaves out of the pond.

What kind of koi do you want to add to your pond ?

That doesn't seem big. Don't you admire to have a pond 10 times of the current size? Perhaps Koifishgirl's one(?) is BIG.

Tan Lee King - Cheers. Know you're contended with the current pond. Can always pick up in the future.
