Very Beautiful pond, especially the stream and waterfall. I like the way it appears to come from the wooded area. Nicely done!!

I would love some ideas for the edging on this pond, I was going to build a wall around it, but I would really love a more natural finnish, does anyone know where you can obtain lightweight rock edging, I think a company in the UK called Rockways used to do it, but I have not seen it around for years, if you have any other ideas please reply on here.

Cheers

Hi Zulu,

Nicely done pond mateCool Have you thought of using flag stones??? They not that heavy, use the rough finished ones not the the square or rectangle shape to give you the natural look, also staggerd themWink

Re: [mattie132] My 6K Gallon pond [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Mattie, the pool goes from 3.6ft by the waterfall down to 5.6ft by the bottom drain, which is near the bottom right corner as you look towards the waterfall, this is to assist all the waste getting pushed to towards the filter, that is a 4" inlet and a 2" inlet in to chamber 1 from the skimmer.

The filter runs the full size of the decking which is about 15ft x 4 and 3 feet deep, there is a 6" void at the bottom of the filter which plastic mesh sits on and a 2" bottom drain in each chamber, there are 5 chambers 1st is settlement, 2nd is bio rings, 3rd is k1 (50ltrs) with a 12000 lph air pump and 4th & 5th have agro rock, there are 2 pumps 1 aquamax 10000 which runs through a 70w Oase UV, finally an amphibious 1800 used for a venturi.

Beautiful pond, I also love the stream and waterfall. My question is about the decking on the end of your pond. Can rain water run from the deck into your pond? If it does what kind of lumber did you use. I saw a picture of a great pond in my koi vet book that had a deck built all the way around it and it was used as an example of something not to do. The owner of that pond had called the vet to find out why their fish were sick and dying. I was wondering if you used special lumber so that the fish were not exposed to the chemicals that wood is treated with?

That's some beautiful work. I hope you wouldn't mind if I used your pond as sort of something to go with for mine. I have started mine out but... It's just a dirty hole in the ground at the moment! Tongue

Re: [zulublue] My 6K Gallon pond [In reply to] Can't Post

Hello, I have used many types of plants to hide the edges, in your case I would plant some ( hemerocallis) these are Day lilies, the will over lap the edges and they have nice flowers, or maybe some ( zantedeschia) calla lilies which grow thick and have flowers which can be cut and used in the house and some ferns can also be used as these too will grow over the edges and almost hang into the water, when I make ponds, I also do the landscaping around the ponds, and one thing I try to do is use plants that have more than one use, what I mean is not only do they hide some thing like a filter, but also give flowers which can be used, or simple adding color to the area, what I do consider is that the idea is KOI, so the flowers or plants should not draw more attention than the Koi, and plants are generaly cheaper and easier to handle than stone, also with plants the ( pondscape) can be changed every year by pulling up some plants and planting something with other colors so this adds a little change to the over all view.
