My Koi pond. Can't Post

I just thought I'd share my pond with you. It was dug over a year ago but only 6 weeks ago since I cleaned it all out and added fish because of horrible brown waterPirate. I now have 10 Koi (I'll post pic's asap so you can tell me what type they areLaugh)

These pictures are low quality cos they were taken with a cheap digital camera the size of a matchbox. You should be able to make out 3 fishSly

I've always had 0 Amonia and 0 Nitrites but a pH of 8.0 to 8.4 (which I stress overBlush)

I hope you like it, Feel free to give sugestions for planting around my pond etc , I want a japanese look if it isn't too lateLaugh The water level is a bit low cos of a hole in the liner near the topUnsure

Hi Jon,

I'm amazed that the size of that filter is keeping that water so clear. You must have super bacteria in it Sly.

I's a nice size pond and the small koi will soon be growing well. You may find that you may later need a bigger filter if you intend to get some more koi.

How big is the hole in the liner. I too have a hole in my liner as my trowel went through it while laying the slabs on top of the raised area. I fixed this by using silicon and another small patch of liner. How big is the hole. They are easy to fix depending on the size.

The hole is about 2" long, I did it while putting bricks around the edge during the strong winds we've had in Jan&FebMad. If you think that filter is small then you should have seen my first oneWink

Actually it's bigger than it looks in the pic. It can handle 2000 Gal easily. I have 10 koi's in there now too.

Next year I plan on making my pond 20'x8'x5' a lot bigger. Then I'll need a bigger filterLaugh

Hi Mike,

Is the hole a slit or an actual hole ?. If its a slit you can cover this with a piece of liner and some silicone.

Yeah always the same in the UK, This is supposed to be summer now, but maybe we forgot to tell the weather that Cool.

It may be worth draining the water a little more so it is about a couple of inches from the slit. You will have to put the silicone inside the slit as well to try and hold it to the wall of the pond. Make sure you put a bit of polystyrene on the surface below the slit as I''m not sure if the silicone you are using is tocix (to catch any dropping silicone). It is a standard one from B & Q or the likes it may well be, unless you got if from a koi dealers then there is a good chance it will not be toxic.

I would also double the time that it takes to dry then fill your pond up and see if it has worked. The preasure should hold it but you may need to re do this every 6 months or so.

Stuart
