Three ponds of good size in your yardSmile Im thinking it cost you a good penny to have that many ponds built. Nice looking ponds at that. Send us some pics of the koi in the pondsWink

Hi All,
The 55000lt is still empty, will run it for about two weeks to check everything before the Koi goes in. Koi is waiting in Q-Pond of 6000lt.
I have about 80 Koi between 25- 85cm, and to photograph them while in the pond is very difficult to appreciate.
Koi between 25-35cm – in 10000lt pond (20)
Koi between 55-85cm – in 40 000lt pond (30)
Koi between 35-55cm – will 55 000lt pond (about 35)

Here is some photos of my Koi, enjoy.

You got some nice koi there and why dont you sead the filter of your new pond with a old one from you other pond and then you can put your koi in right away. This is done all the time with new ponds and your koi will be fine as you have a estabished filter when you do this.

Judy,
You are absolutely correct, but I have used a new product which is cement base, to seal the pond with called Camcrete. It is a fairly new product here in South Africa.
The problem is that the pH is round about 10,5.

Put you some baking soda in the water and it will stablize and come down to 8.5 which is a good ph for koi. Then put you some oyster shells in the filter for a buffer. Should work well if the material that is used does not keep leaking the chimical into the water. Maybe you need to seal with something else if it stays high after putting the baking soda in the water.

Hi PDV,

Bicarbonated soda is good to bring the ph down or even vinegar but these are only temp solution, IMHOWink I'll place some oyster shells or sea shells as ph buffer. This will stabilize your ph. I have 5kg sea shells in my last settlement and my ph is at 7.2 to 7.4 since Aug to presentCool

Jon
