Re: [mike c] NEW 5000 GAL POND;MASHIMIZU FILTER SYS. [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi there Mike , as you can see theres 2 tanks made of fiberglass, on left is BIO filter which is VORTEX AQUABEAD,on the right is the VORTEK SS which is the settlement or Prefilter tank,a blower act as an agitator when cleaning those bead,1/3 horse wunderflo pump w/cleaning basket in it.and the ZP 10 UV light. Just like any other filter system you need to have bacteria in your system the only thing I know comparing to my old filter it feels like this sys has its own easy way to grow good bacteria. In a matter of a week I can feed my fish to the max at the same time water is also slowly clearing up. So Imagine if you will contol your feedings for atleast 2-3 wks. BTW I have 20 koi 6 of them are 25-30 inches,5000 gals. Its my pleasure talking to you, JIMMY

Hi Mike C.Yes its quite expensive but for me its worth it bec. I dont need to spend half a day every sundays after church washing off those Jap Mats and not only that I have to be carefull not to over feed them bec my old filter is not sufficient enough. Im here in SOUTH CAROLINA.
Some pics of my koi, water still not 100% This is only a week and a half old filter sys. Thanks JIMMY

This is almost a free maintenance filter system cleaning is just pressing a botton, turning 3 knos,5 min. your done 10 min if it is really dirty. You only have to do it 2 times a month." Thanks to you carla waterfalls needs more boulders to hide the liner but that would be next spring, I am building my TT Tower right now so it would be ready after winter and also thanks to JON(koi38) for not getting tired of answering all my questions. By the way guys Ive found out something in my pond just now when I was feeding my fish there was a TURTLE (5-6 dia.) swimming, resting and gasping for some air by my skimmer and swim down so fast when she saw me. I think shes hiding by the b.d. dome. I want to know if its gonna be bad for my fish, eco system of my pond if you have a TURTLE with them. Do they eat small fish? I want to know if this happen to any pond owner and what did they do about it. Need some response. Thanks JIMMY

Hi Jimmy,

With regards having turtle in your pond I'd say the little koi are in danger. Like what happend to my bro inlaw. He bought some fry then place them with turtles. One week on everything was fine but the following week the fry started disappearing and he thought it could be the heron. He later found out that it was his turtle that eating them. I'm not sure what type of turtle but it was long gone nowSmile

Jon

Hey Jimmy, now that you've had your system running for a while tell me how you like the pump. I just bought a new 1 hp Wunderflo yesterday and I thought I'd check with your satisfaction before I hooked it up.

Larzi sorry for not responding right away. I'd just got back here Koi Forum just now. You probably hooked it up by now anyway Its almost a year now. I have it up and running and I dont have any problem with mine. This is a quite pump. I'll tell you something about it. You will hear a humminnng sound from this pump whenever your beads needs to be clean up. After you do it it goes back to normal like it not running. Thanks JIMMY (copya)

Re: [copya] NEW 5000 GAL POND;MASHIMIZU FILTER SYS. [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks for the reply. We just bought the pump a few weeks ago and haven't finished enlarging the pond yet so it isn't up and running. We picked it up at the OKC Koi Show because the vendor had a real good discount on it, but I hadn't talked to anyone that had one running. Ours is 8,500gph (4 times bigger than the one it is replacing) so our waterfalls and stream bed are getting much bigger than they used to be. I'll be posting before and after pix once it is complete.

That makes THREE of usTongue. This weekend instead of working on our pond we had a b'day/going away party for my son (going to Turkey on an Air Force Deployment) and today we helped my wifes daughter set up her first mini-pond. (It's an old HEAVY bathtub...Shocked I kid you notBlush) Hopefully next weekend we'll get more work done on it. I think about 20 more bags of mortar should be enough to finish raising the sidewalls and enlarging the main waterfall.
