Hi PT, you're welcome! What more could a guy ask for? A beautiful pond and at a fantastic price! I have a feeling that your contractor friend is going to be famous very soon. May your new pond accumulate lots of good "chi" and bring good luck to you and your family! Wink

PS: At first look, I thought that the koi(rather large and long) were already in the pond, but looking at it carefully I realised that those were actually banana trunks recommended by your builder to cure the pond. Crazy
Always friendly :)

Re: [taikor] New Pond [In reply to] Can't Post

good morning to everyone and Gong Xi Fa Cai too.
thanks TK (dttk). yes, i do hope the new pond will bring me some chi like what you said. i am still waiting for the filter mat to be install properly. i had to modify or correct it as it was not place properly by the contractor. i hope by this coming Sat i could put in a couple of koi if water condition is ok. i will take some snaps of the filter chamber once it is up and running.
to Taikor, thanks for the kind words. the pond is under shade but with sunlight from the side.
once again a happy chinese new year and happy koi...ing.

Hi Iptong, my name is danny and I just got a chance to visit this site and looked at your pond. I like your pond very much. It looks really great with nice waterfall. I'd been long hoping to have a koi pond of my own. but I couldn't do so since I stayed at a condominium in the past few years. Good news is my new house has just completed and I have a big garden where I intend to build my dream pond. Can you introduce anyone to help me to build the pond? I am new in koi keeping and I know I have a lot more to learn from all the masters here. My new resident is located at Permas Jaya, Johor Bahru. I hope to have your reply soon as I intend to start my pond in March and hopefully to have my koi swimming freely in the pond before May.....

Thank you very much and wish you the best....oh and to your koi's....

-Danny

Re: [DANNY] New Pond [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Danny, thanks for the compliment and welcome to the koi club. i doubt you can get anywhere else to find a better forum than this one here to talk about koi and help you want to built a new pond. i am not sure i can recommend you any contractor as i am in the north (kedah) and you are in the south Johor. please don't despair as i am sure there are alot of folks in this forum could help. i think there are alot in Johor and you will find one. post more question up here and i am very sure the koi gurus here will help you get one. mind you, they are really helpful and i got the most out of this forum.
unfortunately, i am still a begineer and i could not give you much advise. one thing is right here as what Mr.Khoo mention, you have to get a good contractor and follow-up on their move as good pond contractor may not really understand how to put in a good filteration system which is so important. i had my share of problem but fortunately they are easily overcome. one thing though, surf the net or get into this forum more and note down those fine points that you need later and by the time you got your contractor you already had a fair idea what you want and you are on your way. visit some of the members pond to get some idea. one last advise, make sure (ie, if you have space) make the pond big so that you won't regret later.
well..i am happy and still learning and i had got sifu or guru in this forum who had lend alot of help and advise either thru this forum or privately. to them, i say, THANK YOU once again.
happy koi...ing

Re: [lptong] New Pond [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Mr Tong, Thanks for your reply and encouragement. I strongly agree with what you mentioned, we can't get anywhere to find a better forum that this one. I am glad that I started to search the internet after I have spoken with a few friends about my idea of starting a koi pond of my own, and one of them suggested me to search the net for more information. I am learning more and more every time I come to his forum. It is better that reading books about koi (since most of the koi books are written by foreigners in other countries) Since you are in the North of cause I wouldn't expect you to know any good koi pond contractor in Johor...anyway, Next week I am going to visit 2 koi farms in Johor, one in Senai and one in Kulai, which also referred by my friends, to ask for contacts of pond contractors. I am sure I will be able to get some links there. Thanks for you comments, and many thanks to Mr Khoo's advices too. You know what? since I am new here starting from ground zero. I intend to start posting my plan and progress of my new koi pond in-making to this forum so that other subsequent new comers may benefit from it too.

Well, I am lucky enough to have 2 friends that are keeping koi, one in KL and one in JB here. The one in Johor has a big pond of the size of a swimming pool. (I guess) From my estimate, his pond should be about 20 feet long, 10 feet width and 5 feet deep, and his is keeping about some 80 koi's in his pond! He has a 4 compartments bio-filtering system which I am yet to understand the technicalities......before I started to build my own bio-filtering system.

Thanks for your suggestion about getting a bigger pond instead of a small one. I got your point. Others also said the same to me. By the way, just for your information and may be later discussions with others, I am going to build a pond of about 5 feet wide and 10 feet long, 4-5 feet depth, and I intend to grow about 20-30 koi's, would there be sufficient space for the koi's to move around? (I think my friend's pond has too heavy traffic!) By the way, how do I calculate the water needed for the pond of this size? It the tap water in Malaysia safe for koi pond? Should I insist to get a 4-compartment bio-filtering system? or may be a 3-compartment bio-filtering system is enough for my pond (to-be)?

Any sifu would kind enough to give me some more advice before I start commit to a contractor to build my pond would be very much appreciated.

Thank you.

Best regards,
Danny
