Thanks for all the nice compliments. I'll throw a few more pics up. Our atrium pond (the first pond we built) was a the most involved project because of the fiberglass preform, the waterfall, the stone patio, having to haul everthing through the house, the ground had been compacted for the foundation and was like concrete, etc. This little project took about 7 months. By the way, the local koi/watergarden dealer who sold us the preform assured us the 17" deep, 500 gallon preform was plenty large for koi!! (This is a highly reputable, nationally know place that no longer has a location here!) Yeah, I guess until they are about 6-10" long! But our poor little koi still spawned in there and we had about 40-60 babies in stock tanks in the backyard till we built the pond under the tree. Then we got involved with our local koi club and built the largest pond and upgraded our stock as we learned more. The large pond took about 4-5 months (our ground dug fairly easy), the smaller pond around the tree was 1 weekend, no digging (then we realized we had no filtration on the pond and added the bog the following weekend). A note on the bogs -- every one we've talked to say they clog up and don't last very long, but all of ours have been in operation for 4+ years without doing anything except thinning out the plant material. I think ours has been more successful than most because we used large chunky lava rock in the bottom with about 6" river rock on top, while other people tend to use all river rock Of course my landscaping continues to change and grow like crazy. I am also collecting plants like crazy - gingers, bromeliads, bananas, heliconias, anything tropical or exotic.
