Hi Zoul,
The pond is 20x16 and 2-4' deep depending on which part you're looking at. The sidewalls are elevated a bit to make sure we don't have any jumpersShocked, but during cold weather we can fill it up to give them the extra depth so they don't get too cold.

That's what I've been told... but the water lillies and the Koi have been living together for 2 years now so I guess notWink.
I really think Koi diet has a lot to do with how well plants survive in a Koi pond. Koi eat what they need and apparantly mine don't need what the lillies have. 2 of these lillies have been in the pond 2 years, 1 was grown from a single root this year and is doing fine.

Mine are total opposite! They are curious bunch and will munch on leaves that fall into the pond!

Koi are funny. Mine hardly mess with the lillies at all unless food gets stuck on the leaves. Stuff falling in the pond is a different story. Koi food falls into the pond too, so everything that falls in gets sampled, but most of the time it gets spit right back out againTongue (unless its a bugWink)

Sorta, (it still needs a bit more fine tuning before I'm satisfiedBlush), but I cap it off at feeding timeSmile. The Koi seem to get more of the food that wayWink

Larry,

I do the samething with my DIY surface skimmer. I have to cap it during feeding time, if not most pellets goes to settlementShocked

We can never be satisfied mateTongue

Re: [larz1] Night Shots around the pond [In reply to] Can't Post

I used to have to cap off my surface skimmer during feeding. Now i DIY a way to overcome this. Rather than having the skimmer at the same level as the water, make it higher, say one inch higher. Then cut vertical openings about two inches long all over the side of the skimmer. So now the surface water will pass through this vertical openings, and not the fish food (providing the pellets are bigger than the opening). Though pellets will still stuck there, it will not fall into the skimmer. Furthermore, you need not adjust your skimmer level if your water level fluctuates. If you don't understand what i meant, i will post a picture next time..Smile

Your design is easy enough, but unfortunately it doesn't serve my purposesFrown. During fall we get a lot of blowing leaves and I want them going in the skimmer to the strainer basket. They won't fit through the slits you describe.
