Our Pond - Still under Construction Can't Post

40 feet x 20 feet x 4 feet deep , 24,000 gallons

Pond was started up in the beginning of July. Still experiencing the new pond green water syndrome, but we can see down about 3 feet tonight. Still a lot of work yet to do, but the fish are swimming happily.

How many fish do you have so far and how many do you plan on getting?

Hi,

We put 13 koi in to start. (10 at 7-10 inches and 3 at 24 inches).
Then one of the 24 inch spawn, and we now have about 30 more about 1 inch long.

We have 13 more (7 to 10 inches) in quarantine, to be added in about 2 more weeks.

Hopefully that is all we are putting in, we want them to grow big and not be over crowded.

Koifishgirl,

No shelves. The walls are straigh down. We are buildind a 20 foot x 8 foot x 2 1/2 foot , 3000 gallon veggie pond to the left of this pond, for the water lilies, water hyacinths, and other aquatic plants. Water will be pumped to it from the koi pond and the overflow will return to the koi pond.

Koifishgirl,

We have no intensions of going into business. This pond and our others we have is just a hobby.

The veggie pond will be about 12 to 15 feet away. Close enough to exchange water, but far enough away so that they do not distract from one another. The koi pond is for viewing koi swimming, the veggie pond will be more decorative.

Re: [russwerner] Our Pond - Still under Construction [In reply to] Can't Post

I went back into the forum archives and found my original posting so that I could update our progress. I guess we are still not done but really getting close. Here is the current view. Its our original idea, with a few minor changes.
Main pond is 24,000 gallons. Lilly pond is 7000 gallons. With settling tanks included total water is 31,000 gallons.
We house 50 koi ranging in size from 6 inches to a little over 24 inches. All but one are USA domestic koi and most are raised from our own spawns. Nothing to take to the show, but we love them just the same.

Just a closser look at lilly pond and the TTs in the background.

Thanks Jon,

TTs were easy to build, have not needed cleaning, and pond has never measured ammonia or nitrites, so I guess the TTs are doing their job. Hardest part was building the rock moat around them.

I think the TTs add personality to the pond. Rather than trying to hide them, we emphasized them.
