Pond & Koi Questions... Can't Post

Greetings everyone;

I’m just curious. How big (gallons) are your ponds and how many koi are you stocking in your ponds right now?

Have a great Thanksgiving!

     I started with tropical fish in aquariums over 25 years ago. The pond is a more recent addition. The oldest koi are 8-9 years old. My favorite are butterfly koi. Most of mine are 2-4 years old.

Hello,

I had given my pond size in Imperial . It's about 3400 US gallons or 13,000 litres.

ooh, that's much better. Having Koi in outside pond is so much different than in tank. But, I keep threatening to turn the soft tub hot tub into an inside koi pond. Sounds like you've been into koi for a long time. I've admired people who have had koi ponds for about 10 years and then six years ago I got enough courage to build my own. Now I have one three times the size of the original....I'm not anywhere as professional as these guys here but I may be someday. ...cuda

Re: [cuda] Pond & Koi Questions... [In reply to] Can't Post

     I started out with a preformed plastic pond, then a fiberglass pond with internal filter. My four year old son poured an entire container of bubble bath onto the fountain head and I lost all but one of my fish. The next pond had a rubber liner with external pressurized filter. As the fish grew I added on a DIY filter. Now my pond is overstocked again.
As the fish get larger, I worry more about giving them the proper care and enviroment. I would like to make the pond 30'-35' long as soon as the weather allows (end of March) as well as make a new filter system. So I looked for the best forum on the internet (this one Sly) and began to ask questions. So much to learn, so little time Shocked.

Better late than never,
Jaylene

Re: [cuda] Pond & Koi Questions... [In reply to] Can't Post

     I had no idea what I was doing with my first pond Blush. For the children I would set up the wading pool add water and they would jump in. I thought I could get a pond add water and throw in some fish. A quick, easy Saturday morning project.
Little did I know I would need to study biology Shocked, chemistry Shocked, plumbing Shocked, landscaping Shocked, electrical Shocked, flow rates Shocked, city bylaws Shocked, gardening Shocked, and engineering Shocked.
I did not know or care which direction the wind blew across my yard, or the location of bedrock, sewer and gas lines below. I paid no attention to which trees lost leaves let alone where the roots were. No clue where the rain drained off my roof. Hadn't heard of BD, TT, DOC, LOL, AFK, BRB or any CSH. Nor did I know about the likes and dislikes of raccoons, herons and hawks.
Now I wonder if I'll ever learn the just the basics of koi ponds in my lifetime Pirate. One thing I have figured out in time for pond renovations in the spring is:
BEFORE BEGINNING ANY POND RENOVATIONS, HAVE ATLEAST THREE SETS OF BACK-UP PLANS. MAKE SURE TO LEAVE THE LAST ONE OPEN BECAUSE THE FIRST TWO WON'T WORK Tongue.
