i also have a new pond Can't Post

Our house got it's first pond two days ago. This means i am getting my first koi.
I think it is too deep, about 4-5' with sloped walls. The koi are always on the bottom. Also the koi we bought are like babies.
there are about 4" long. You hardly ever see the fishies.

i don't know how do get pics on here. if you do not see it just click on the pic then, it a link

Hey, nice build there. I've also found that my young fish love the bottom of the pond too. I'm sure they'll be fine in a few more weeks as they're starting to become less shy.

One possible concern I have about your pond is that it's looking rather cloudy? Have your paving and bricks been water sealed? Looks amost like dusty water from your photo.. Hope all is ok though :)

"Have your paving and bricks been water sealed?"
I don't know what you mean. We have a liner, if that helps.
I think our fliter sux. All it has is some of this foam with big gaps.
I cleaned the fliter, flithy. So it must be doing its job.

How many koi do you think can live in there?

Hi Alown,

Since you used those concrete caping eventually calcium will come out(white powdery stuff). Now, I'm not sure how harmful this chemical is but just to be on the safe side seal it. You can buy this from a harware store.

A sealant will give the stones a water repelant surface and so stops any harmful agents leaking out of the actual stones into your water. Thus keeping your fish more safe and your water quality much more desireable.

If your filter is only foam pads then you are right. It suxMad. Hit Koi38 up for some pointers on filtration. Foam filters alone will only trap solids and you'll have to clean them constantlyUnsure. Adding an easy to build bio-filter will not only keep your water much cleaner and odor free, it will cut down on how often you have to clean the foam padsCool. The 4-5' depth is excellent and the fish will grow accustomed to their new home soon and even come up to you at feeding time for a little affectionWink.

Nice pond! I'm interest in building a pond like yours. How do you go about in building your pond? Do you use anything to hold the stones together?
