I first bug a pond two years ago, I bought a few fish that the racoons promptly helped me get rid of . The whole set up never worked as well as I was hoping for. My fish hid all the time, the pond wasn't deep enough or big enough to make them feel comfortable. This spring my husband finally agreed to help and we redid the pond. I will try to get some pictures ASAP but it still isn't completely finished. The new pond is 11 feet X 6 feet X 3 feet deep, stil not a huge pond but much larger than it was before. I haven't noticed any obvious signs of predators yet, even though I have had a few fishies disappear. I trasfered the only two comets I had left in the old pond and then slowly added a few koi. Things slowed down because I needed surgery but I was managing to get out to see my fish and feed them daily and they were starting to get a little more friendly.. then the TRAGEDY happened and I lost 8 of my fish....I have since fixed the water problem and replaced fish but I am convinced that the ones that survived the tragedy still hate me. My fish scurry for cover when I get to close and prefer to wait to eat until I go away. They hover under the feeding ring and glare at me. How do you get your fish to be friendly. All of my fished are babies except the 3 comets I adopted a month ago, so I thought perhaps that they weren't as friendly because they were little but the fish at the local store are small and they will come right up and suck my fingers if I wiggle them in the water. Maybe they are just really hungry? Someone please help I really want to be a good fish mom and I feel horrible about what happened to them already.
