new pond, please give me honest feedback... Can't Post

I love making ponds and waterfalls. here's the latest one i did... I was thinking about starting a business doing them, so i was wondering what you guys think... if its professional enough... what can be improved, etc. I just finished this pond, so the planting around it isn't grown in enough, the plants in the pond are somewhat established already. I need more plants covering more of the rock around the waterfall, and I have more water going down the right side since the pictures... there's one before pic and 3 after.. i'll have to post some in another post, i hope you like them...

thank you for your reply!

the pond is 15 feet wide, slighty bending in both sides in the middle, the length is 22 feet long. The max depth is 3.5 feet, but there are differenent levels for different planting depths. There are about 25 koi in there, they recently bred, i didin't even know it but i saw about 15-20 little babies recently :) once again, thank you for your compliment!

I have a skimmer filter and waterfall tank, thats hooked up with an external pump, about 3000gph, and then i have a seperate submersible pump about 2000gph going through a UV filter, its a turbo twist 12x and it works incredible! I have never used one before this one, but it was only like $140 and keeps this size pond clear no problem. I need more mechanical filtration, and some biological filtration. Just not sure what setup i need. I'd like to skip most of the mechanical filtration in the existing skimmer because the filter pad media i use, its actually really good, but it takes so much out of the water that it gets really dirty quickly. this media would be better off as like a final step in filtration. I'll probably add some kind of DIY filter, any recommendations? It would be nice to have backflow on it also.

Great looking pondCool. If you want a good filter upgrade and don't mind DIY you should check out Koi38's Vortex filter and some of the DIY TT designs in the forum as well. With those added to what you already have your water should be great (and a lot less filter maintenence too)Wink.

hey hunka27, your filter upgrade really depends on how much money and space you want to provide for it.

approx. you have 5000gph which is good.

the cheapest way and most accessible for the moment i can think of is if you can install an outlet where your filter media is at and every so often drain that chamber and replace it with fresh water. thats very simple, just shake the media a bit to let loose of the muck and drain it. thats if an outlet install would be possible.Blush

hope you go thru with your biz

i have many ideas how to minimize cost on building a pond, i'd love to share

Beautiful...I love it when ponds are more than just a koi holder..and become part of the beauty of a yard etc.....good job...

I've attached an early picture of ours (xxkoiqueenxx is my daughter fyi)...I'll post a more recent picture...but the idea for me has always been to blend the pond into the garden...

Anyway...I love the natural angle to yours...very nice...no equipment visible etc...My only question would be your ability to view the Koi close up. I know we tend to spend hours kneeling down next to the water etc....

Great work!
Richard

thanks for everyone responses and feedback. xxkoi4joyxx, as far as my ability to see my koi, there all about 12" and they swim over to the edge to me all the time, they recognize me immediatly and are always hungry. but I can see them all over the pond, my water is pretty clear... I was also thinking of making a small dock going into the middle of the pond which would also make it easier to see them.

Since you asked for an honest opinion..........its' beautiful. Very natural looking. xxkoi4foyxx your pond is beautiful as well. I really love that the water level seems even with the surrounding ground. Looks like a sheet of glass.
