Your pond volume works out to around 2500 gallons, so once your filter is well established (next YEAR) it should be able to handle 250" of fish (1" of koi per 10 gallons) That is only true if your filtration is in perfect working order. Your first fish are only there to seed the filter, so to get things started lots of people like to get a cheap goldfish or two to start things off. That way if there are any problems you don't risk losing an expensive Koi. Once the filtration has had a chance to get up to speed (0.0 ammonia, 0.0 nitrite, <20 nitrate after 4-8 weeks) you can start adding nice Koi one at a time. When you are adding fish keep this in mind. They grow. If you purchase 25 10" long koi (maxumum load for your pond), they will become 25 20" Koi, overload your filter, start getting sick and die on you . Since you're planning on getting imports, go slowly, be selective, and avoid the impulse to load up in a hurry. That way you can enjoy your hard work and Koi investments for a long and happy time A little more info on your pump, filter, media, and raw water would be good. We might be able to give you some pointers on how to get things off to a healthy start.
