the very small pond i am replacing and the young koi that will fill the new one Can't Post

view of my house from pond location. new pond location will be behind the bench, the visible green area.

another view. here you can see how small and unnatural the pond looks. the area at left is where the new pond will go.

and here are my young butterfly koi. i'm not sure if i am identifying them correctly, but i suspect the white/orange one is a kohaku and the yellow one is an ogon. i have absolutely no idea what the weird mottled navy blue one is, he's some kind of freakish mutt (in an endearing way).

they were bought at a local shop and have no bloodline and aren't worth any money and probably aren't very attractive to koi afficianados. but they're my babies and i'm going to build them a pond 8x the size of their current one!

spencer. he/she (not sure about this one) is the youngest, maybe 6" long. he makes a loud smacking noise when he gobbles food pellets that the other koi do not make, and is the least shy of the 3.

spencer with the ogon (?), matilda. matilda has the most engaging facial structure and the biggest "mustache". she is also the most skittish and the most voracious eater. she has grown over 1.5" since i brought her home (she was the same size as the kohaku when i got her 6 weeks ago).

and here are a few shots of all 3 (the third unidentifiable one is a male named freddy):

they all seem healthy despite their small pond...maybe they know how hard i'm working to give them a proper home!

Hi Jeff,

Nice butterfly kois you have there. The Ogon doesn't look like an ogon to meCrazy looks more like a metallic doitsu. The third one I think is a Shiro Utsuri. Not 100% though, maybe with better pixTongue

Just wondering how big the root system on that stump.Shocked That will be a chellenge. I've noticed the leaves are changing colors, is it fall or spring???

Something is wrong with your finger nails, they're all pinkLaughLaughLaugh

rgds,
Jon

hahahah wife's hand

the koi pics are from yesterday, the pics that show the pond and foliage are from earlier in the spring, about 2 months ago

you may be right about the yellow one - the back scales don't seem very metallic in person but it's pretty hard to tell since they're so young and it's difficult to get a good picture!

we'll find out about that stump i guess, that and another small tree will need to go. i've recruited my brother in law into hard slave labor helping me dig, we'll see how it goes. i probably won't break ground for another month as i scrounge up all the items i'll need.
