Re: [Khoobg] Best Kohaku for Jan/Feb 06, Up to 30cm [In reply to] Can't Post

All right,
I'm sending an original picture, without any kind of manipulation except resizing.
I took the picture tonight, combining a 200 watts outdoor light and the
flash of my Olympus Camedia C3000. I used a polarized filter to reduce
light reflections in the water.
This is my own home bred Kohaku, born the 7th of april 2005. He was the very best
Kohaku I could produce among thousands of fry.
Size is 16 cm, and he (I believe is a male) has lost some volume since october
due to low water temperature outdoors.
You will notice that he is quite especial:
it is a doitsu Kohaku and would be completely scaleless if the scattered ginrin
scalation were not present on his sides.
Hope you like this young koi and enjoy watching the picture.
All the best,

Diego Jordano
enthusiast amateur breeder

Hi, I would say it's pretty good for a male and locally bred koi Smile. Decent body conformation with attractive pattern. Kiwa is sharp and Sashi minimal. Shiro is good. It would have passed of as a Japanese import.

Most hobbyist use Transmore or clove oil to calm the koi during photography. It is easily available at an affordable price in most aquarium shops. Smile
Always friendly :)

Vincent, thanks for sharing. Both are not bad. Kohaku3 has a more interesting pattern and better body shape. The shiro and beni on both koi is good. Let's hope that they eat well and grow well. Hopefully the sashi will reduce as they develop. Smile

Vincent, Jarvis, sorry for the late reply. Let me clarify.

Shiro - the white on the skin
Sumi - the black on the skin
Beni - the red on the skin
Hi - red patch
Sashi - the leading edge of a red patch.
Kiwa - the trailing edge of a red patch.

Btw, you can call me dttk. Wink

Hi Doc,

Thank God for small mercies that you are back with the answers as I have been getting increasingly mortified by some of the posts of late!
Left unchecked, we may even have the following definitions LaughSlySlyCool.

Shiro - a Japanese castle
Sumi - the first name of Sumi Jo, the great Korean soprano
Beni - a town in north eastern Democratic Republic of Congo
Hi - a form of warm greeting
Sashi - a street version of your favourite fizzy drink?
Kiwa - the goddess of shellfish in Polynesian mythology

And which leads me to reproduce the following wise adage of yore.

One who knows, and knows he knows, is a wise man;
Follow Him.
Sly

One who knows, and knows not he knows, is asleep;
Awaken Him.
Crazy

One who knows not, and knows he knows not, is a child;
Teach Him.Shocked

One who knows not, and knows not he knows not, is a Fool;
Avoid Him. Mad

(Duku-friendly,but certainly not a Duku!) CoolCoolCool

Hi (as in "Hello", and not "Red"Cool) HWong,

We all know where you belong, so no worries there.
But, then again, and there are always exceptions to the rule, there are those who do not know themselves well enough to open wide their mouths and instantly remove all doubts of others!Wink Just browse through the forum, and you know who these "prominent" posters are.
Having said that, there remains the fear that some newbies to the hobby may perceive these as experienced "expert" koi-keepers, and take such shallow comments as the gospel truth or tested methodologies, resulting in the sad detriment of their koi and/or ponds; so, fellow forumers, do take caution of the same.

BTW, except for the "Sashi" definition which I made up in a moment of madness, the others are factual, though not in the Nishikigoi context.

Cheers.

CM, so glad to hear from you Sly. Sorry for the late reply. I don't know why I wasn't notified of a reply by the forum. Normally I would respond when I get one.

That's a good one. I esp like the Sashi definition! LaughSly. This probrem of describing the corour of the koi is common esp for some, is it not my friend? Sly

Yes, such wise words. Still rings a bell. Angelic

Hope to be hearing from you more. You sure made this duku's day! PirateSly.
