Best Koi Photo the month of Jan/Feb 2006 on Kohaku Can't Post
The first contest for the year 2006 for the month of Jan/Feb will be on Kohaku. Kindly submit the picture of your koi by replying to this post. The deadline for posting of picture will be Feb 15, 2006 and the poll will begin on Feb 16 or 17, 2006 and from there all members can begin to vote for the best koi picture.

Dear Khoobg

Thank you for starting such an interesting friendly contest. This will definitely further generate interest in this koi hobby...both koi keeping and koi photography. My photography is really bad and I would like to blame it on my camera. TongueSly. Therefore to support this new contest I will get myself another camera (hopefully a digital SLR) and start taking photos of my kois again.

Out of curiousity, will there be any prizes for the winners?

Can you tell me why would I want to pictures of a piece of athletics equipment (discus)?Smile

Sorry couldn't resist!

You may want to revise the competition rules a bit, otherwise a discus (what ever kind they maybe) might win the competition.

Looking forward to seeing some good kohakus.

Just one winner? No different size categories allowed to entry the contest separately?
I would like to see at least 3 size categories (i.e., young, mature, jumbo) that would foster participation, don't you think so?

Khoo-San, Aiyah! Why didn’t you announce this earlier. Just a day before, I took pics of my kois but none of the kohakus.Unsure

I wud say body and pattern would be better judged than colour cos quality of photos will vary greatly. Taking in its stride, this shud be a fun event for all. Sly Thanks

Ya. We hope that all members will just submit their pictures as it is basis without any cosmetic improvement. We will also classify them under three groups as follow :-

1) Up to 30cm
2) Between 30cm and 60cm
3) 60cm and above

No prizes set yet for this round. May be some members can contribute some prizes. What we did in the other forum for discus is members contribute prizes from time to time for each month competition. However, the KOI competition will be slightly different as it involve and much wider audience with members span all over the world and shipping of heavy stuff can be costly.

Thanks for the suggestion. We will classify under three groupings, Koi <30cm, 30cm < koi < 60cm, Koi > 60cm. Each size will have three winners. The champion, the first runner up and the 2nd runnerup.

We can also have a grand champion.

"(RULES)
a) Each Member can post a MAX of 3 Pictures of DIFFERENT Koi for the contest. Multiple pictures of the SAME discus from different angles/sides are allowed, but only the picture of the same discus with the highest vote count will be taken into vote counting. "

As "only the picture of the same discus with the highest vote count will be taken into vote counting" this means by the current rules only discus can win the contest. Unsure

Hi Khoobg,
Please don't bother with shipping heavy stuff all over the world to the Grand Prize Winner.
I would have thought a simple prize of 1 year free subscription to any koi leading magazines would be nice. What say you all ?

Thanks a lot! Having 3 size categories will make it more interesting, I think.
That is most encouraging for me, this way I'll try to get and send decent pics of my home bred Ginrin Kohaku born in april 7th 2005. Out of many thousands of fry I selected several times and finally selected 250 in early august to grow on in a 800 tons pond. In late October friends and members of the AEK came over to harvest the pond and pick up their preferred tosai for free, it was a great fun. I only keep 5 tosai after giving away hundreds of them to other friends and members of the AEK as well as to some of my students later on. These five keepers were 2 doitsu (leather, scaleless) Kohaku that regretably jumped out despite the netting cover, 2 Sanke and this Ginrin Kohaku.
