Hi,

I am going to buy a new FG filter tank for my FG tank of 4ft x 2ft x 1.5ft. Anyone can give me advice on what should I put in the chamber to make it effective? Thank you. Smile

Filter media are more or less standard.
1st chamber(settlement) = heavy brush + back flush facility.
2nd onwards = Jap. synthetic green/blue media(cheap and good).
last chamber = oysters shells(ease of maintenance) or coral chips and/or cockels shells(cheap and easily available).

You also have to ensure that the total biological surface area of your filter box has at least 30%(min.) or more vs. the total surface area of your main pond.

Hi Mark,

I have read about your dry/wet filter design which the drawing appeared on the homepage. Afterwhich the design is changed to a total tickle filter system consists of only Bio-ball of 1200 in each chamber. In my situation, I have a FG tank of dimension 4ft length 2ft width and 1.5ft height.The filter tank that I am going to buy is the one made for this tank size. This filter tank is also 2ft in lenght and has slot on both end at the bottom of the filter to sit on the FG tank nicely.

I have few questions need your advice:-

1. Can I adopt the first design with both wer/dry concept?

2. How many gallons of water must I fill the FG tank ?(the Koi FG tank)

3. I have an Ehiem pump but the waste is not effectively pump up to the self-made sterofoam filter box. Any pump to recommend?

4. How much salt should I add to the tank in order to achieve 0.3%?

5. If I want to use net in the first chamber, how should I place it?
