"Curing" New Pond Can't Post

Hello Koilanders,
I have just finished building my pond and filled it up to test for problems. Since it is a concrete pond I need to "cure" it. A friend suggested I cut up plenty of pineapples and dump it in. It sounds like a messy job. I read in Koi book that I can use Acetic acid but could not find them at the hardware store. They have the low strength Hydrochloric acid though.
Can any one help out with an easy way and where I can get the chemical in around Subang or Petaling. Also do I need to drain the pond dry afterwards.

2ndly, mosquitos are already buzzing around the pond and some may have deposited their eggs. I poured in a solution of ABATE powder made by Cynamid. This stuff is normally used to prevent or kill mosquito larvae in household water jars or containers. I used a dosage of 1 gram per ton water. Can I use this stuff as a routine measure against mosquitos after stocking up with fish?
I actually tried to buy Dimilin as suggested in another thread in this forum.
Any opinion on these two issues is much appreciated.
Thks n Rgds.

Hi HWong, congratulations for your new pond. This is what i would do. Fill up the pond with water and just let it be for at least one week. Make sure all the pumps are running. I won't add any commercially available acid. If you really want to bring down the pH fast, pineapple peelings can be tried but troublesome. Soaking your pond for sometime is just what is required if you're not in a hurry to add koi. Don't use Abate or Dimilin for the mosquito problem. Make sure that the water is always agitated by venturi, waterfall or other means. That should keep the mosquitoes away. Make sure you have lots of air bubbling in your filter chambers too. Malaysian water is not hard and does not require acid to be added. I think this is the simplest, and safest approach for prior to introducing koi into a new pond. Smile

DTTK, Thanks for the tip. No hurry to stock the pond. I will leave the water in for the next 2 weeks.
Rgds.
