Drop height for waterfall Can't Post

I am completing construction on a 1400 gal Koi pond that includes a 3-tiered waterfall. The flow rate requirements are easy to understand, but I cannot find any references on how far above the pond the final waterfall tier should be.
The waterfall width is 24" and the calculated flow rate is ~2200 GPH.
Can anyone advise on what the final drop height should be?

Thanks,
Lary J

Drop height for waterfall [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Larry

Don't really know how to calculate the final drop height. I think the final drop height would depend on how much splash you would like to make and how loud the sound of falling water you would like to hear.

Too much splash and ripples may obscure the beauty of your koi swimming in the pond and too much noise may disturb the neighbours or spoil tanquility of the garden.

My little 4 tier waterfall has just a one foot final drop and that makes just enough splash to calm the nerves after a hard day's work. The fish love to swim under it.

Cheers! And I hope you'll find that waterfall guru to help you out with the calculation.

Best regards
