External Canister Filter Can't Post

Some dearers told me that there is no point creating my own filter system for my new pond and they recommended me with the external canister filter system. According to them, many of their customers have discarded their filter box and bought this conister filter. Is that true? Can this canister filter ready function as bio-filter (according to them)?
Which way will be more effective and can be a long term solution?

External Canister Filter [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi SiaCW,

If you want to use canister filter then you will have to use many units and this is very costly. The first section of the canister filter is a sponge that filter heavy fish watse mechanically and since koi eat a lot, you may have to clean this sponge in very close interval. This will be worst if you use several units.

On the other hand, if you have a external filter box, you can make the first chamber as the settlement chamber and this chamber can be flushed easily from time to time to remove trapped fish waste.

Hi,

I think canister filter is not suitable for big fish like koi where they eat alot. To clear the trap waste, there is need to wash the fine sponge very often and the washing is infact difficult and require a long time to flush the dirt off ( with power water jet).
