Fibre Tank Recommendation Can't Post

Hi everyone,

I am thinking of upgrading or buying a new / 2nd hand FG tank with external top filter for my home at the end of the year.

Any recommendation for a good, reliable FG tank maker I can get in contact ? This time I must make sure that the FG Tank will have what I need.

Anyone selling his FG Tank and filter ?

Thank you and have an enjoyable weekend.

hi Buddy
That is the way to go Smile
How large will be your tank- if I were you, I will have it custom made and make it at least 8 feet long by 4 feet wide.

regards
Dennis

Hi Guys,

Not sure if we can keep 2 FG tank in HDB flats. If not, I may have to sell my existing one. Anyway, hear from Mainland that HDB regulation only allow 1 6ftx3ftx2.5ft FG tank only.

Hi Guys
I am selling my fibre-glass tank, the size is 8 ft x 4 ft x 3 ft and filter tank's size is 4 ft x 1 ft x 1.5 ft.

If you are interested, would appreciate it if you could post again. Btw, i had checked with the HDB personnel before, there wasn't any restriction to the tank size, but you shouldn't make any alteration to the main structure.

Recently, one of the HDB personnel came to my house for valuation, and according to him, there is a need to apply for permit in order to place the tank. Hope to hear from you soon. Smile

Hi,

Thanks for posting. I have send an email to you. I am surprise to learn that HDB does not regulate the FG size tank in our home.... if this is true, wow ! GOOD NEWS for all Koi lovers.

Search through HDB web site but find nothing about restriction of Fibre Tank.

Anyone working for HDB can comment ?

Hi

I believe there is a maximum floor loading for all structure (i'm not so sure for HDB flat but in JTC, it is 10KN/m2). If your tank, inclusive of water does not exceed the floor loading, than i think it is safe. Smile

Any comment from the HDB guys or any contractors?? Please enlighten.

To all HDB hobbyists
Please refer to this thread.

Want to be safe writes to HDB(Singapore Public housing) indicating the size of the tank and seek approval. I couldn't locate the letter that was communicated between Kok Jong and HDB which indicated that the max. allowable size of the tank shall be 2M(L)x1M(W)x0.5M(H). Also, there are regulations by building authority stating where you cannot install your tank for example, cantilever beam supporting the balcony is disallowed. So don't take risk if your tank is too big.

Hi everyone!like Mark and Tony had said,i too believes that there should be a retriction on the maximum load for every building's floor level,as i'm working in construction for pre-cast item(like up-grading projects).
And before i bought my 8 ft tank,i remember clearly that i call the town council to clearify, what they told me is as long as there isnt any alteration the main structure of the building, shouldn't be any problem.Anyway, just make the effort to do a proper application,if they really say no application needed, ask them to give you some kind of letter to support it,just in case got in trouble for nothing...
Cheers to everyone! Smile

Like Mark and TonyG has mentioned, there must be limit to the live load you can impose upon the floor of your HDB flat.

All building are built a combination and dead load and live load + some safety factor. Overloading will cause your structure to crack and collapse and hence it is very important to check with your HDB guys in Singapore to find out this limit.

Hi Jsoon!i think its best to keep koi in blue FG tank.It will be easier for you to enjoy your koi/s which have SUMI in them.
That's why in koi competition they used blue tank?i supposed....view of the kois is much clearer compare to black back ground.
Happy koi keeping everyone!

Hi everyone,

If I get an external filter that sits on top of the FG tank, I will be using a pump to suck up the water.

1) Will that means that the "****" will be sucked up and broken up entering into the first chamber making it more difficult to be trap by the media ? Any issues with those who use external bio-filters ?

2) What about getting an eheim filter to be the mechanical filter to suck in the dirt before pumping into the bio-filter. I understand that eheim filter has a better and finer netting that trap dirts better (hearsay from fish shop) ?

3) I am thinking of getting an reputable FG tank maker to customise my tank with skimmer, elbow joint etc. Any recommendation ?

Anyway, thanks for your support, the only one I need now is to convince my wife that my FG tank has to expand to accomodate the growing kois.

Cheers

Hi Everyone,

Singapore HDB engineer has finally replied to me in BLACK & WHITE that they approved of the fibre tank in my home. Smile Smile Smile I intend to custom build a 6ft by 4ft by 2.5 ft.

I have check with HDB and they suggest that it is better to get approval before buying a FG tank.

Each HDB flat is different in other districts and has different load factor. Therefore, please check with them. You may be ask for a drawing of your FG tank or floor plan describing where you intend to lay the FG.

Thanks for those who contribute to this article. Appreciate that. Smile

Fibre Tank Recommendation [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi all,

I just started koi rearing in my HDB apartment and managed to setup a FG tank of 4ft x 2.8 ft x 1.3 ft (~ 110 gallon). Yesterday, I have put my nine koi in my new tank after few hours of aeration.
I have a mount a 3 chamber filter above my tank. The 1st and 2nd chamber are filled with fiber green mat (fine and coarse) and the last chamber is filled with coral and sintered glass. I've used a 35W pump (1000 litre/hr).

1. This morning, I've found the water turned cloudy because the **** of the koi failed to suck by the pump. Have I used the wrong pump or I did not align my air pump in the water in the correct water flowing direction ?

2. Do I need to change the water for clarity.

Any comment from anyone who could help me ?

Thanks

Your filter has not kick in if its new. Care to tell us how long has the filter been working?
In the meantime, check water quality with test kits and change water per test kit instructions.

Thanks Mark,

My filter has just been working yesterday(new tank).

From your comment, if the water condition is found satisfactory during the maturing period, can I leave it for a few weeks for the filter to be mature irregardless of the cloudyness ?
