Filter Pump Can't Post

I have a 6x3x3 fiber tank with an 1ft filter box built into the filter tank.

I am now trying to arrange the filtering system with the pumps etc.

The koi shop owner told me to put the filter pump inside the filter box at the end of the filteration system. The pump will draw water from the begining of the filteration system through the different layers before it is pump out, this creates a cirrcular waves around the tank (where the koi are swimming).

Is this correct method ?

Based on my logic, the dirty water from the tank (where the koi are swimming) should be pumped into the filter box and the "cleaner" water should exit at the end of the filteration system.

I was at his shop and I saw that he is using this method but I find that I cannot enjou watching the koi swim as there are a lot of waves.

Does it make sense to do it this way. What if I did not follow his advice ?

Hi,

Thank you for your reply. I am sorry that the detail of the filteration system is not clear.

I will draw a sketch of the tank and filter and hopefully it can explain things much clearer.

A Rectangle fber tank with a 1 ft filter attached next to the tank.

_____________________6ft_____________
| | |
| water<===| pump | ^
| out | ______ | |
| | filter| |
| | ______ | 3ft
| | coral | |
| | ______ | |
| water | bio- | water
| inlet bottom of ====>| filter| is draw
|_____tank_________________|________| up
1ft

Basically, water is drawn up from the inlet at the bottom of the tank and pass thru the coral section and goes down to the next filter and suck out by the pump at the end of the filter system.

Do you think this filter system will work ?

Hi,

Maybe a sketch will help us to understand how the tank and filter were constructed.

6ft
______________________________________

| water pump from top | pump |

| | bio | 3ft
| | _filter|
| | coral |
| | _filter|
|_____water inlet fr bottom_ |______ |

1ft

If the water are to be sucked in from the bottom of the tank and pump out at the end of the filteration system, does this method work ?

Oh ! Oh !

The sketch is distorted.

Well, basically the tank comes with a filteration corner which is attached to the tank. It is 1 ft x 3 ft x 3ft.

Inside the filter box are 4 compartments. The first compartment has a water inlet at the bottom of the tank and the dirty water are drawn to the top which passes the first bio-filter mat down to the next compartment comprising of coral filter and up next to the bio-filter and down to the last compartment which a powerful pump eject the water out like a jet-spray to the tank.

My question is does this method work ? What are the practice most of the hobbies do for their fiter system.

What do I need to buy for a good filter system ?

Filter Pump [In reply to] Can't Post

hi
actualy I am sorry but i cant really imagine the filter.
But from the looks of it, it looks like a multichamber design where the water flows from one end to the other.
It should work. Is the filter on top of the tank? Thats my understanding.
I think I get i, now, is it the filter is 1ft by 3ft? Thats what I see from your drawing anyway. Actually no matter how you arrange, the water returning to the tank is bound to cause some ripples.
If you are really into piping, it would be best if you can have the water return to the tank from one nd of the tank so that the current provided would push the debris to one end to be suck up by the pump. Also the kois would love some current as this would help them grow. I notice that koi's like a tank/pool with some current in it which they can swim against.
Well hope my suggestion helps Smile
