First Timer! Can't Post

Hi Everybody,

This is my first post so take it easy on me!!

I just moved into a new house, the previous owner of the property has started to build a basic pond, its approximatly 3ft x 6ft and is 5ft deep, approximately half of this is under ground level. The pond has a concrete base and has brick built walls, and is lined with a thick liner, at present it has no drains or filters ect.

I'm wondering if this basic pond could be used to keep koi, I've never owned or known anyone to own koi so i'm a complete novice, My initial thoughts were fill the pond up with water and add koi, but after a little reserch it would appear that there is more to it than that!! Would it be possible to to keep kio in a pond such as this as it does not have a bottom drain? or can a filtration system be added without requiring a bottom drain?

I understand that i'm asking some very basic/novice questions but any help would be apreciated as everything I have read so far i have fond a bit in depth for my knowledge, I dont mind spending some time learning and a bit of cash if it is possible to covert this pond in to a suitable unit for koi.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Will

Hi new friend..

Although Im not a Chinese, please.. very sorry to say that the feng-shui is very out for the size of the pond.Unsure Is there any possibility of re-sizing it? as for filtration for a small pond you can use the ready made which is available in the market but if you can re-size it, it will be more fun to incorporate the filter with the pond, then you will have more things to do and more questions to ask.. Cool

Best regards

Thanks for the help,

It may be possible to resize the pond, but there isnt that much space available, what dimensions would have better feng-shui?

If i'm honest i do want to go into too much detail as it is my first time and from what i've read it seems quite complicated so a ready made filter as you describe sounds more suitable.

Thanks again

Sorry friend, im not a fung-shui man but the history was many years back when I was handling one major renovation job for our subsidiary office. The Branch Mgr who is going to sit there was too particular about fung-shui and from then I always carefull whenever doing any construction Cool.

As for your case, its immediately strike my mind that the size of your pond hole is sound too common, I hope you can guess. Perhaps you can widen it a bit maybe to 5' x 6' x 5'... just my opinion...

About the filtration we have many sifu out here to help and perhaps if additional filter required, you can build a DIY TT which you can refer to "DIY" threat in this forum..

Best regards
