Foam in water Can't Post

I notice that small groups of foam are forming in the water and retained along the walls of the pond. What are these and how do I get rid of them?

Pls see my reply here.

This is just one of the possible cause. Other areas to lookout for are - sick fish, poor water quality (especially high ammonia) and salts that are not suitable for fish.

Hope this help.

Thanks Mark.

The foam is not excessive but proves to be an eye sore.

I am getting ready a dry filter (with bio balls) copied from the design posted at this home page. I hope that it will solve the bits of foam floating around.

Foam in water [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Mark,

I do have the same problem of having some foams on my water surface. However, I tested my water regularly and the water parameters are fine.

Nitrite: 0ppm
Ammonia: 0ppm
Nitrate: 20ppm
PH: 8.4
KH: 8 deg

I do have 2.4% of salt in the water. My filter and pond are 4 years old and I add cat litter regularly. I do 30% water change once fortnightly and do PP every 2-3 weeks.
So...not to sure why I still get the foams.

Regards

Thanks Marcus.
This evening I managed successfully start up an additional filtration tank filled with corals. After a couple of hours, the foam disappeared. I have swithced off the UV light to reduce another parameter and see the water first thing tomorrow morning.

Hi Marcus, I´m just wondering why do you use PP systematically every two or three weeks, if your pond and filter are 4 years old and I asume you have overide all the parasites or deseases problems?

Hi Marcus, false alarm. Foam appeared this morning. I have to resort back to the UV light treatment.

At one stage I was using Cat Litter regularly and adding more clays whenever foams started to appear.

Ever since I started using trickle system, I have stopped using C/litters, salt, coral shells and others(like tonic...). Water is crystal clear all the time and without a trace of foam. Fish are fed only once a day. Water parameters are tested constantly and results are always good. Besides, every morning about 10 ~ 12 gallons of water is used to water my garden plants and replaced with an equal amount.

You may want to try this.

Ya! one more comment.... I used to use 2 units of 40Watts UV lights connected in series and have stop using them.
