Fresh Water in koi ponds?!?! Can't Post

So we all know that kois live in fresh water. But we also know that the pond is VERY BIG. How will i get enough freshwater to fill the pond and later on refill it to clean it like yearly or something? Or i can use the water hose's water (which i think is tap water and has chlorine). Can anyone help me?Unimpressed

Hello , we need to know what is BIG??? A big pond for one is often a small pond for another! And what size filter system you will have as well as how many koi and what size koi you want to keep!

Hi,

20 x 10 x 5 is a good size, but certainly not "big". For a pond this size, you can safely keep around 15-20 adult koi. Also, you should consider a 25-30% water changeout on a weekly basis, not once a year.

Cheers,
Dennis

This is what I do:

Have a good estimate on the amount of water you've discharged. When you refill your pond through the tap, dose your pond progressively with a dechlorinator. Depending on the tap water quality in your area, a tap water conditioner that also neutralises dissolved heavy metals may be safer.
