Help me with my Problems...!!! Can't Post
Dear all,

I have a pond that measures about 5 feet x 4 feet x 1 feet. The problems are that my water turn green very fast(2-3 days after changing water) and quiet smelly. For ur information, rightnow, my pond doesn't have any filtration system and are exposed to direct sunlight. I hope any of u guys out there can help me with ur suggestions on how can i solve those problems or tell me how can i build a filtration system if that was the the only solution. I'm counting on u guys...

since you have a small pond, you can make your own filter box or barrel or trickle tower. Do a search and you will find a lot of projects in the DIY section.

If you rather buy, there are all sorts of filter box sold in aquarium shops.

I have calculated your overall pond volume to be around 540 litres.

How many koi do you have in this pond?

i hv similar balcony pond n water parameters good with
a)1 external eheim Pro II
b)1 trickle filter using jap mat
c)2 overflow filter incorporated into 2 decorative ceramic urns/pots which r 2 feet height n roughly 12-18 inches diameter.
d)1 decorative cascading pot water feature.
filters b,c,d r run with water pumped by 3 separate(big boy/dolphin 707/808) pump heads cannibalized fr overhead filters.

i put in filter media consisting of:
a)biohome
b) JBL sintomec/biomec
c)jap matting
d)bioballs
e)cockle shells

will post photos once i m able to ASAP nxt few days.

humm. no filter at all?

im using DIY skippy filter.. my pond 1200litres, 7 kois & 10 goldfish. Full sunshine. clear pond water..
low cost, low maintenance, healthy water, healthy fishes...

Thanks 4 ur suggestion, now i just build a filteration system with help from my frens, it has 4 compartment using overflowing pressure from 1 compartment to the next 1, now the water can last longer but only 4 about 2 weeks b4 it turn to green. is ther any thing else that i can use.i also have painted the inner side of the pond with ocean blue paint.

i have about 2 big koi's (1' length),3 small koi's (5" length), & other 14 small river fishes. i'd just finish build my own filtration system. it has 4 compartment using overflow pressure to go from 1 compartment to the next 1. now it can last longer than b4 but still need to change the water after 2 weeks. the water didn't smell but only green in color. can u suggest what can i use to tackle this greenish problem?

do you have the pump before the filter or after? yes a uv will help clear your pond.
