Hi Toshi,

The easy way to calculate the tonnage of the pond is to convert the dimension into metric value.

1 metre = 3.281 feet

Hence 1 feet = 0.3048 m

Hence your pond volume are
(11 x 0.3048) x (10 x 0.3048) x (4 x 0.3048)
= 12.45 cubic metre

Remember 1 cubic metre = 1000 kg = 1 ton

Hence your pond tonnage is 12.45 tons

The filter size should preferably to be at least 30% of the pond surface, ie 33 square feet or in 11ft x 3 ft in dimension. If situation allowed, try to build a bigger filter.

I hope that help Smile

Hello Toshi!
As Mr. Khoo mention, make your filter bigger,as you need a mechanichal filter, and settlement chamber, the 30%is only bio.filter.A suggestion make your pond a minium depth of 5ft.the filter depth of 1mtr.is ok.

Hi all,

Just want to clarify:

In the calculation of pond volume, do you include the filter volume as well ? e.g for a 10ft by 6ft by 3ft pond with a built-in filter of 4ft by 6ft by 3ft (which means the actual pond size is 6ft by 6ft by 3ft), what would be the actual pond volume ?

Thanks.

When we talk about the size of a pond, we basically are talking about the total volume of water (ie 6x6x3) where our fish have access to. So, I will exclude the filter compartment(4x6x3) when calculating the volume of the water.

Let's hear from the rest.

Yes, I have same idea with Mark, when we talking about size of pond , it is the tonnage of the water excluding filter.
Also the height is calculated based on the water level / the height of water, not the height of pond.
