We are getting closer,
Plants will have no effect on your Nitrite level either. Try Nitrates and you are onto a winner. Plants user Nitrates and food and give back oxygen.
If you want to lower your Nitrites then you need to improve your bio filter to breed more nitrospira marina, which eat Nitrite and produce Nitrates.
