Mosquito Larvae Can't Post

I have just come across this great forum. I read Idham's query on mosquito larvae in the filter. Many of my friends who have ponds have the same problem. How does one address it?

Cheers
Ben

Hi Ben,

In most bio filter that is aerated (with hi blow), mosquito larvae will not be a problem. I do keep some small mosquito larvae eating fish in the filter just incase mosquito try to breed.

If larvae problem still exist then, I suggest that you visit Cheras aquarium where they sell one type of white powder which is effective against mosquito.

For the prevention of mosquito in the filter,i was introduce to have a kind of plant from Taiwan that comes with six leaves in a branch(name unknown). It appear like a sweet potato leaf, and it works! All you have to do is to have couple of pot near to your filter.I think the plant release certain kind of aroma/smell that keep the mosquito away. I will find out the name if i get the chance.

The name of the plant is:
"Mosquito-Off" Geranium also known as Perlargonium Citrosa.
Mosquitoes hate its scent and will stay away. However the scent to human is quite fragrant. One have to also realised that the scent does not comes out automatically, and plant must be "disturbed" by "shaking" the leaves to bring out the scent. As for maintenance, shaded sun area, water well/pinch of the tops to encourage bushy growth. Plant multiples very fast and cost something like S$20 per pot (1 foot tall).
