Dear Agil There are tons of info on building a filtering system, including diagrams, etc. At the home page, just point your mouse to "Koi Discussion " and go to "Pond Construction and Water Filtering System" and if you come across any technical terms that go over your head, just give us a yell! Offhand, the general rules of a filter box is that it has a surface area 30% of that of your pond, has a pump that circulates water about 1-2 times and hour and a pH buffer like corals or oyster shells. If you can build one, a "wet and dry" trickle filter works better than a conventional submerged filter. You can't miss this topic just browsing through the threads. A few common terms rolling of my head are : Japanese mats - these are filtering material which carry good germs Brushes - acts to trap solid waste and normally put in the first chamber Bio-balls - used as bio-filter for good germs in a trickle system bad bugs - baddie bacteria, parasites, leeches good bugs - nitrifying bacteria test kits - standard equipment for koikeepers to test for ammonia, nitrites, pH, nitrates Koi-kichi - koi crazy, that's us... Common abbreviations: lol - laughing out loud do - dissolved oxygen doc-dissolved organic compounds syt - sweet young thing How's life in Pakistan? My favourite food is garlic Naan with Tandoori chicken. Yummy. [biggrin] Tell us how you are doing with your new pond and have fun! Cheerio. Best regards Josh
