Need Help on My Final Year Project Can't Post

Dear all,
I’m currently 3rd year mechanical student from University of Nottingham Malaysia.
My final year project title is “Design and development of a low cost protein skimmer for koi pond”

I’m planning to do either co-current fractionator or counter current fractionator.

There are a few questions need you guys help…
Please help me.

1. What is the average koi pond size in Malaysia?

2. What is the ideal depth of pond size in Malaysia?

3. What is the ideal ratio of koi to volume?

I read article saying that “1000 gallons for the first koi and 100 gallons for each additional” is that rate acceptable?

4. How often Dissolved Organic Compounds, DOC forms per fish?

5. How regular/ frequent does protein skimmer need to be operate?

6. Do you prefer a fix protein skimmer or a portable model?

7. Any request for my design? Such as size, material, cost etc?

My email address is jc_teh@hotmail.com
If you have any articles or further information kindly reply the forum or write to me.

Thank You

There are a couple of interesting threads on another forum you may find helpful and informative. It is a primarily North American forum, but there is some good food for thought contained in some of the discussions.

There are some very knowledgeable Koi Kichi who post on that forum, and the level of expertise on water quality and different approaches to filtration is very high. A number of the members there have been keeping Koi for 25-35 years.
