Hi ! M.H,

Nice to have one more friend from same country. Koi pond is not cheap. I just completed my concrete Koi pond. Pond size 4m X 1.8 m X 1.75 m (D). Filter is about another 40% of the pond size. Total cost including all the filter mat, bioball, pump and aerator, it cost about USD 4,500.
What is your intended pond size ?

Cheers,
Ken Sutanto

Thanks Ken! actually, i made simple pond around 2 meters3, but there is no filter or any other equipment yet. I will more than happy if you can teach me how to have complete filtering and any other with cheaper cost. Your map of filtering and other contact details to shop will be perfect for me. However, thanks so much for your information. It's a pleasure to have a freind around the world

Hi
Building a filter system wouldn't cost you must if you could grab 2 or more trash bin. If you are using 2 bins, then use the 1st for settlement and the second as trickle bin.
What is left is a water pump, some 3/4 inch pipes and joints, Silicon glue and a manual (or handheld) drill, a 3/4" dia. drilling blade (that is used to bore holes on doors where knobs/locks are secured). Complete system besides the water pump should not cost more than SGD$75/-. I built mine for <$50.

I will try to draw some pictures and post it here later this week.

Regards.

Hi Mark,
Do you mean that having only a settlement tank (w/o filter matts) and a trickle tank (with only bio-balls I presume) is sufficient to clean the pondwater? This is I guess a dry filter system, and probably there are pre-requisites to make it effective, such as minimum height of bins.

Hi
Precisely. You can actually calculate the surface area of each bioballs so as to establish the required amount(30% of pond surface) and multiply that by 2. Water that travels from start of the media to the end should be at least 18inches. I find this height to be the most effective height in stripping the ammonia and nitrites out of the water while passing thro them.

Hope this help.

In Jakarta you can contact, Jakarta Koi Center (021) 7822046, Indo Koi (021) 5482922, 5324438, Dragon Koi (021) 5674758.

No idea if they can deliver to Bali, you can contact above telephone number but think to buy a Koi, you have to visit the Koi dealer to make you own selection.

Hi, Mike,

I am also new comer in this hobby. Used to have a pond keeping local Koi fish, just finished reconstruct my pond and introduce Koi fish 3 weeks ago. All my pond construction, filter and trickle tower based on the information and guidance from this forum. Specially thanks to MR. Khoo and MR. Hans.

Local Koi fish is cheap. To my understanding the best Local breeder is from Blitar - East Java. While the imported Koi Fish, mainly from Japan, is very expensive. Let say, Local Koi of about 25 cms cost around Rp.50,000 while the Japanese Koi can be Rp. 2,000,000. Of coursr price depends on patters and color as well.
I am personnally at moment keep 7 Japanese Koi from 15 - 30 cms and about 10 Local Koi of 20 - 55 cms.
If you have a chance to visit Jakarta, give me a call, I can bring you around to see the Koi dealer in Jakarta. I heard also that early December 2000 , there is a Koi show in Jakarta, worth to visit. Any planning to join ?

Have been many times to Bali, for Holiday only. Planning by end of this year will go to Bali for Holiday. But not yet fix the schedule. By the way, Which area of Bali you are leaving ?

Regards,
Ken Sutanto

Dear Ken,

Congratulation for your new pond and koi collection.

I have just arrived from East Java (Batu)
and bought some local koi (very cheap 20-30 at Rp.80-90 thousands) with all kind of shape, colour, and patterns.

Now, I still want to collect the real and famous Japanese Koi. I'll more than happy if you can advise me the contact details of Blitar or any places for Local and import.
But of course, I do want to visit Jakarta if have a chance.

My koi pond address (me too) is in the south of Denpasar city. Jalan Pulau Moyo and close to Benoa Harbour and also Makro Bali. Please ring me at +62-81238-12266 if you need an assistance when you're in the island of Bali.

However, thanks so much for your help and attention, and also special regards for Mr. Khoo & Mr. Mark.

Have a great day for all!
Mike
