Newbie, New pond, Is this leaking? Can't Post

Hello everyone, I just finish building my first pond. Here a basic setup: Pond is rectangle 3.10' x 9' x 2.6' depth. I know it is a little small, but that all I can squeeze out of my lawn. My dad wouldn't let me kill his plant.. Anyway...I built it out of concrete, painted it with two coat of drylock, and two coat of kote black notoxic pool paint. That a total of 4 coat of waterproof paint. I leave it to dry for a week and yesterday I finally fill the pond with water to soak it. Here is my question... after 16hours my pond lost 1/4 of an inch of water.. is this an indication of a leak? Thank you first! Feel free to give any comment you have.

Please correct me if Im wrong..
The waterproof layer drylock or kote that you applied on is not meant to be used as the final coating, it should be finished with the final fine cement plastering or tiles. The drylock or kote may not stick to the wall once the wall got damped and therefore I presumed that it could be the beginning of the leakage.

Best regards

Well, my intention is that is the final coating... that what it said on the can....here how i build the pond... I pour concrete for the floor about 6" think,,, then the side i use block with mortar.. after that I render the entire pond then apply two coats of drylock waterproof paint..http://www.ugl.com/drylokMasonry/masonryWaterproofer/oil.php ,,, then i wait till the drylock paint dry, I then apply two more coats of aqua kote paint...http://www.absolutehome.com/home/improvements/20585-National-Paint-Aqua-Kote-Acrylic-Waterbase-Pool-Paint--630.html ...I guess that doesn't do the job.. you think if I apply a layer of cement plaster outside of these paint will stop the leak?? or do you have any other suggsetion? Thank

Where are you? 1/4 of an inch in 16 hours really does not seem like a leak to me especially if it was a regular warm day.

Well, I think i have a small leak.. not so big... I lost 1/4 of an inch over the night not during the day... if during the day, i would think it is due to evaporation, but at night.. the temp is around 55-60F... btw, I live in Georgia. Thanks

qt4eva,

I think you must use another small tank and fill with water and put beside your new pond, then take all measurement of the small tank and your pond, If both water level drop are the same, that mean your pond is not leaking. People used this method to test for swimming pool. Will this help you to find your leakage?

Perhaps you need to inspect all the piping joints too...

Consider lining the pond with a rubber liner, my two.
