biotec 18 gives u a a max-flow of 12k l/h. recommended water volume (for the 5-year clear water guarantee) for a highly stock pond is 13k liters ~2900 emp gallons. well my supllier says if following the recommended config, cleaning is once in 2 months.

what are your pond config rob?
had my biotec 36 for 3-mths and have never cleaned it up yet!!

Hi,
Thanks for the help. I have a 3000 gallon pond, with the biotec 18 and 25 watt uv. The pump is a aquamax echo 8000 ltr. I have also got 2 large air stones in the pond and one in the filter for oxygen. I did clean the foam yesterday (using pond water) and found they were very dirty. I also put a medium piece of foam under the seive in the filter to try and help with the amount of dirt i seem to be getting in the filter. Is this correct? I have 12 koi in the pond between 3 inch and 8 inch is this ok and not overstocked for the size of my pond. thankyou for the help,i look forward to your reply.

by right, it should be ok with the setup. dun worry with the extra help for the sieve, i dun see any harm.

your stocking is fine, at a premium fish stock should be 1000 liters (~250 emp gallons) per fish. and thats spoiling your fish really!!

so i guess the underlying problem here could either
a) be too many fish shit - are u overfeeding?? (but i doubt so because ur not overstocking)
b) other debris - potted plants, leaves from trees etc

hows your pond like btw? it is clear water? are the fishes ok? water parameters??

Hi ,
Thanks for the reply. My pond seems a whole lot clearer now since cleaning the foam filters the other day. However i have now noticed 3 koi that now have ulcers underneath the stomach?? The pons has been up and running now about 8 weeks ans i used biostart for 4 weeks before putting any fish in. The PH is 7.5,the nitrite is zero and also the amonia level is zero. I have booked the day off work today to go to the local koi shop and buy some treatment. I dont think i overfeed, sometimes i have fed 4 times a day but only small quantities and they eat everything within a couple of mins.Anybody any ideas??
