1 metre = 3.281 feet

Hence volume in M3
= 26/3.281 x 15/3.281 x 3.5/3.281
= 38.6 m3
= 38.6 tons

As 1 m3 = 1000 Kg = 1 ton

For such a big pond, it is strongly advisible to build your pond with minimum of 5 feet depth { Unless you have to take into the consideration of safety => Better to be safe than sorry }

HI MARK,

SORRY FOR THE INCOMPLETE QUESTION, QUESTION 2 REFERS TO THE POND DEPTH. MR. KHOO IS RIGHT, I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY ISSUE IF THE POND DEPTH IS TOO DEEP.

I HAVE KEPT KOI BETWEEN 1988-1995 BUT HAVE STOPPED FOR MANY YEARS. I AM TRYING TO COME BACK TO THIS HOBBY AGAIN.

APPRECIATE YOUR ASSISTANCE.

Thanks for your prompt reply. Wow! thats alot of years and you should be helping us here...just joking.

Good to consider about safety like what Mr Khoo said. You have children?

Welcome back to the koi hobby.

POND SIZE AND FILTRATION [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Mark,
I have four kids and there are many more kids in our neighbourhood. Many kids do come around without invitation, my biggest concern is kids falling into the pond.

Anyway, any suggestions for the varieties mix ? Is 15 to 20 koi too few for the pond of this size (35 tons) ? Perhaps the pond is too big.

PK

Hi PK
That's about 17 feet length of fish.

If its 15 to 20 koi than it has to be something like 10 inches in size.

This figure is a real conservative consideration.

With a good filter, your 35 tons pond should be able to handle 15 koi of up to 20" or even 24") without much problem. Hence spend some serious time to design a proper filter.
