Pond Construction Can't Post

Hi,

I have never reared koi before and would like to start. I have read a lot about koi and ponds from this site. The problem is, I can't decide if the pond should be inside the house or outside. I want to know if it is better to leave the pond inside or outside (covered). I presently have a nice indoor garden which is near the hall, dining and also the study area. I think it will be nice to have it indoors but I don't know if it will cause problems later on. (pipe getting stuck)

Please tell me the pro's and don'ts of an indoor pond and also and outdoor pond.

I greatly appreciate your time in answering this question.

Re: [arvindd] Pond Construction [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi arvindd,

Ok, Inside or outside all depends on how larger you want the pond to be and how big you want the kois to grow. Koi will only grow as big as their surroundings.

Put a koi in a pot and it's growth will be limited. Put a koi in a lake and you have a jumbo on your hands. If you want a nice big pond to grow jumbo koi, then you will also need to consider the filter (this needs to be at least a thrid of the size of the pond).

It you live in a castle or very big house, then inside would be ideal.

The pro's and con's to both inside and outside will vary according to what you desire. You first need to think about how big you want your pond. How many koi you want. How big would you like them to grow. How much space have you got inside the house for the pond/tank. How much space could you spare outside the house for the pond ?.

Once you decide this, we will be able to give your our reccomendations and loads of free advice.

Stuart
